Half life 2 (and episodes) :
The game is a first person shooter; it was originally released on PC around 3 years ago. You play as Gordon Freeman who was a scientist working for a company who opened a portal to another world, you then save the world. You then get sent to sleep (that’s apparently what happened in half life one, i haven’t played it but it helps as a background.) You then reawaken in this game, and have to save a city from the Combine, an "alien" force.
The Physics are hugely important in this game; you soon unlock a gravity gun, which allows you to pick things up from a distance and use them as weapons, or to move objects. This forms part of the puzzles in the game. You also use things like a crowbar to move through the game.
The guns are good and the enemies present a challenge, being intelligent but not too difficult to defeat. Occasionally an AI character will help you out, these are fairly good for AI characters and manage to help rather than hinder.
One major downside to the game is the load times. There are often mid-mission loading points, sometimes even in the middle of a firefight or a vehicle chase. This gets REALLY annoying. And they aren’t short loads, they often take between 30 seconds and a minute!
The graphics also aren’t anything to shout about, they're ok but not "uncharted: Drakes fortune" or "assassins creed" level. I haven't played a huge deal of the episodes, but from what I gather they’re a continuation of the game with a few improvements, but they’re certainly worth playing once you complete the original game!
Many people have said that Half-Life was one of the best ever games on PC, now it is GOOD but i don't think its spectacular on PS3, I’ve played better games but that doesn't mean that HL2 is anything awful!
Portal:
Portal really is a weird little game. its only short (3-6ish hours)but offers alot of fun! you play as a test subject for Aperture Science. You have to test out the new "portal gun". The gun's used to navigate through the levels. The gun fires two different colours, one blue and one orange, these open up "portals" when anything enters one portal it exits through the other, this includes you or other objects such as blocks, or gunshots. You can also build up speed if you continuously move through the portals and you can use this to move great distances.
Some surfaces cannot accept portals, and in some levels there are guns and other obstacles. You often have to move blocks from one area to another to place on pressure switches in order to advance and some levels really get you thinking!
The voice that guides you through the game is a robotic-sounding woman, She'll instruct you on what to do at some points. She's humorous and witty and you'll often find yourself laughing, the voice really livens the game up a bit.
Portal really is a good and interesting extra, it doesn’t feel tacked-on to the other games and is less serious than HL2, it also seems quite original, differing from other puzzle games I've played.
As I’ve said, I haven’t played Team Fortress 2, but I've heard that its great fun, and I'm pretty sure it would add something to the game for most people.
Overall I think that if you’re a fan of the genre or are a Half -life fan then this is a must (unless you’ve already played HL2...unless you want to play it again on console) and you may enjoy the game even if you aren’t a huge fan, but it’s not quite a classic for me.
Advantages: great range of game Disadvantages: not enough rewards
One of the biggest bargains on the market, half life 2 with both expansions, portal and TF2 for only £20!
This is 5 games, yes, 5! and they are all completely different, i'll start with half life 2;
its a classic, yes, its an older game so it isnt the prettiest but it is one of the best first person shooters of all time, not only does it test your playing ability but its also tests your brain with puzzles that come to you. Following the adventures ... ...enemies as you fight the system with the rebels in an imprisoned society. The expansion packs, episode 1 and 2, both provide a worthy add on to the original and provide hours of playtime and enjoyment.
Portal is more of a mini game, the aim is simple, get to the exit for cake! using a series of portals that you shoot out of a gun you wiz your way though a puzzling game which is most enjoyable. Followed by a friendly, yet slightly freaky, woman you ...

Advantages: 5 game in 1 disc Disadvantages: NONE!!!
The Orange Box is 5 games from valve software bunched into 1 disk for a low price. My favorite game on the orange box is definitely team fortress 2. Team Fortress 2 is an online game where you have to communicate between your teammates. There are nine classes in team fortress 2 - The Heavy, Pyro, Scout, Soldier, Engineer, Medic, Demoman, Sniper and Spy. Each of the classes have their own strengths and weaknesses. For example, you couldn't rush into ... ...use teamwork to communicate in the game. This has to be one of my favorite multiplayer game ever. I still haven't gotten tired of it, after hours and hours of playing! The main reason I bought the Orange Box was for Team Fortress 2. Half Life, Half Life episode 1, Half Life episode 2, and Portal are also on the orange box. I haven't played Portal yet and have barely played the rest of the game on the Orange Box ( I've been hooked on Team Fortress ...

Advantages: team fortress 2 is brilliant Disadvantages: other games are no good
The game would appear to be good value for money as it contains 5 games, however half-life was a definite let down with similar game play and not great action. portal was poor with not much real enjoyment, it became very repititive. However team fortress 2 has to be one of the best online game ever made if you enjoy comedy violence and first person shooting. the cartoon graphics is brilliant and really makes the game funny and a real must buy (probably ...

Advantages: Some very good games now. Great media features especially with the Blu-Ray player. Disadvantages: Few exclusives. The Wii and 360 are much cheaper and have better games.
's machine also has far more good exclusives, and even games for both machines, such as The OrangeBox and Bioshock, are frequently better featured and/or appear sooner on the 360. Against the Wii, the PS3 certainly does have an edge, not only in terms of raw power, but with a lot of the big franchises now in glorious HD, where the Wii versions tend to be cut down if they're ported at all. However, Nintendo's machine is still the one to go for it you want to experience the phenomena that are Wii Fit and Wii Sports and a whole bunch of other exclusives; it's all a matter of taste really.
So, it might seem that Sony's machine is still at the back of the pack, but the ace in the hole is the machine's built in Blu-Ray player which, after the death of HD-DVD, is the clear next step up for those who can spot the limitations of DVD on HD televisions ...
Advantages: Arguably the best selection of games of any current console. Great HD graphics. Disadvantages: Hardware may still be somewhat unreliable. Lacks innovations specific to the Wii and PS3.
Motorsport 2. It's also got the best versions of some cross-platform titles like The OrangeBox, Burn Out Paradise, Grand Theft Auto IV and Bioshock; the latter three are pretty good on the PS3 too, but the 360 still boasts unique content.
Of course, the Wii and the PS3 have their own selling points too; the former is worth a look for it's innovative controller and some great Nintendo exclusives, and the latter's built in Blu-Ray player is great for watching films on HDTV and it now has some decent exclusives in the likes of Little Big Planet and Killzone 2. However, the 360 remains the machine of choice for the hardcore console gamer in traditional genres like first person shooters, motor racing and role playing games.
The 360 also offers a superior online experience to other consoles with Xbox live. Membership comes in two levels; silver ...
Advantages: Great boss battles, environment design and graphics Disadvantages: Sometimes AI can be a little duff, Nathan Hale's voice actor has changed
sizes and layouts for the different game modes and number of players.
So far this is one of the best FPS's I've played and in joint place with COD4 and the OrangeBox for PS3. Insomniac have made what was in my opinion an average, underachieving game an excellent sequel, for one of the first times ever, I must say it is okay to believe the hype. . ...
