Half-life 2 is the excellent sequel to the highly acclaimed action game Half-Life. This time round, Xbox uses have been privy to the wonders of the Half-Life world.
BACKGROUND: The first game sees you playing as a particle physicist, Gordan Freeman. Following an accident at the research facility Black Mesa, portals begin to open to another world. Creatures from this world soon begin to pour through with disatrous consequences for Earth. Needless to say, Freeman saves the day.
PLOT: Half-Life 2 sees you playing as Gordan Freeman once again. However, you seem to have been transported many decades into the future, although Gordan himself hasn't aged (this is due to the medeling actions of the Suited Man, who's actions remain shrouded in mystery in Half-Life and Half-Life 2). This time round, you play in a once human city that has been taken over by a race called the Combine. Most of the human inhabitants have been locked away inside special complexes, and some are still 'free' to act as slaves for the Combine. Your main objective is to escape this city and help the small human resistance to fight back against the Combine. The first thing you may notice about the game is the lack of cut-scenes. This is because the entire game is viewed from the perspective of Freeman, meaning any additional information usually given to you in cut-scenes has to be told to you by other in-game characters. This helps to add to the overall realism of the game.
GRAPHICS: The graphics of Half-Life 2 are superb, and beyond comparison with any game that so far appeared on the Xbox, and is almost on a parallel with the 360. explosions look scarily real, dark environments are full of atmosphere, and costal regions are so realistic that you almost forget that you are playing an action game. Until you get shot in the back and then you remember pretty quick.
SOUND: The sound is also of the highest quality, with background music setting each mood perfectly. Every weapon has its own unique sound, adding to the realism. Try playing this game through a 5.1 surround sound system and you will be truly astonished.
ENEMIES: The AI engine for Half-Lfe 2 is the most sophisticated I have ever encountered. The enemies will adapt quickly to new terrain, taking cover in doorways, windows, behind pillars etc. It can become quite difficult to believe that you aren't fighting real people. They will also adapt to use objects around them as weapons; run out of ammo and they will pick up bricks and through them at you, find a barrle of oil and they will light it and roll it toward you. This makes for some pretty challenging gameplay! As well as the Combine, you will fight against the zombie-like creatures that made their first appearance in the first game. This time round there are a few more types of zombie creature, as well poisonous spiders etc.
WEAPONS: There are many, many types of weapon available to you in this game. There are the usual pistol, machine gun, magnum, shotgun and grenades, as well as Combine weapons. There is a crossbow too, which is the only long-range weapon available. However, the most fun can be had with the gravity gun. This is an addition to the Half-Life world from the first game, and allows you to 'suck' objects towards you and then either drop them or fire them forward. This adds a new type of puzzle-solving to a more-or-less action game.
REPLAY VALUE: The game is huge and will take most people a good few weeks to complete. However, there is no multiplayer, so replay can be limited, although the single player game is definitely worth playing through more than once.
Advantages: Great game to play and experience, online fun is better than ever. Disadvantages: Sometimes a little complicated for those who haven't played half life the original.
Anyone who knows about half life have probably already got it, because this is one awesome game. In the future, where the world is twisted and infested with zombies, you can experience amazing new ground breaking ragdoll physics and the ability to manipulate and interact with anything around you. When half life was first on the shelves, it was a new era of gaming with the intense graphics and physics, however, now there is a more comprehensive range ... ...must-have for you. This package also includes counterstrike, a terrorist vs counterterrorist first person shooter. this is very popular for online gamers, and has loads of servers for you online to play with friends or people you don't even know! I bought this game several years ago, and i still play it at least once every few days. ...

Advantages: Everything was more then I ever expected Disadvantages: No live capability
A triumph for the xbox at long last! a sequel enjoyed by all!!! Ok, maybe i'll slow down a bit
Guns - Fantastic, a good variety and not too space age to make you feel castrated from the warm feel of steel and iron of a real gun. Assault rifles with a good range of firepower (The clip empties fast though).
The SMG - Something reminiscent of the MP7. A little Sloppy though due to kickback but puts them down just the same
Crossbow - Crossbow with ... ...beatdown
Laser guided missle system - For taking down those pesky striders. Good for outmanouvering they anti missle defence. Not AS powerful against hostiles.
Shotgun - Powerful. Robust. a great weapon against the headcrabs and their victims
.357 Magnum - Oh hell yes. My personal favourite, a 6 shot i'll admit but if you land one boy to those guys go down. Useful against all enemies
Storyline - Again, absolutely fantastic. Gives a good reflection ...

Advantages: Great Graphics, Improved Storyline, Brilliant Multiplayer Disadvantages: Had to wait too long, may be surpassed too soon.
--- OVERVIEW ---
The first Halo game for the XBOX was a massive success and a flagship title for the console. Since then no other shooter has surpassed it (on the Xbox that is). With Halo 2 you have a really good single player (although not as good as HalfLife2 of course) and Xbox live multiplayer functions too. It has been a long time waiting, but luckily it?s been worth it.
--- GRAPHICS/SOUND ---
The new Halo game has a completely new graphics engine and believe me the graphics are stunning just look at the images below if you don't believe me. Hi-res special effects are plentiful creating a superb atmosphere. Sound; some good background tracks to take notice of and the usual bangs and explosions for sound effects. A few eerie sounds add to the atmosphere, but nothing to write home about. Overall a significant improvement ...

Advantages: XBox's ultimate game now available for your PC. Disadvantages: Need powerful computer, a little dated.
You require a good PC. Even some slightly older systems will falter and performance will drop to below that of an Xbox. And let's face it, the best reason to get this game is to rub it in Xbox owners faces, isn't it?
So, you've got yourself a super computer and feel like taking on the challenge of Halo, many levels of alien blasting and saving humanity. Vechicle sections, manning gun turretts and running around with your team in these huge enviroments are all fantastic feelings and really make you feel sorry for these poor humans being blasted out of the sky by alien scum.
But wait... This is exactly how the X-Box version felt. There's really not much new for people that have already beaten the game on their huge black box. And revolutionary? Well, with Halo 2 almost out for Xbox, and Half-Life2 and Doom 3 crashing onto PC ...
Advantages: an amazing game all round - no faults Disadvantages: none
of the most in-depth story lines I have ever come accross within a game, if you do however buy this game, see about getting HalfLife 1 too to get you into the full story! If you're not interested in buying number 1 too, you can just play HalfLife2 and it will fill you in on most of the story line as you progress.
IF you like a good, medium paced First Person Shooter with lots of horror and adventure then HalfLife2 is for you... Its now available on the PC, Xbox and PS3... And comes with many different "extra's"
Horror scenes are pretty good also, allowing you to fight aliens, zombies and other "genetically enhanced humans" and as you fight your way through the huge landscape, you come accross many different enemies, and many different problems which need solving! Including operating a crane, destroying lots of things and... Well, shooting ...
By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors even the emotions of both friends and enemies.
