My Personal Thoughts ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Half Life is a truely exceptional piece of gaming. I first played Half Life when it was released on ps2 as i never had a PC at that time. However when i did get a PC Half Life was straight into my collection. I thought he game was fantastic and unlike anything i had previously played. It had a gripping story that was very realisitc as you were at the hands of it all. In fact it was this game that got me into First Person Shooters (FPS) in the first place purely down to all the factors contained within this masterpiece of a game.
Intro ~~~ Half Life is the story of Gordon Freemans work at the Black Mesa Research Lab. It starts off as a normal day, u come into work on the onboard train system (this is a great start to the game as you can see all around you and the goings on at Black Mesa) you come into work
and talk to a few of your work mates. After exploring and getting use to the controls and just messing around you get briefed on an experiment that requires your assistance. You have to place a crystal into a lab for it to be experimented on, and oh wat a disaster comes about. The crystal opens some sort of portal and before you know it everyone is either dead or injured and theres aliens running around the whole lab. Im not going into any more detail on the story as it will spoil it for those not having played it yet. All i can say is that this part as well as the whole game is extremely well thought out.
Gameplay ~~~~~~ Half life is home to amazingly immersive and highly gripping, enjoyable gameplay. The location the game takes place is great as there is much to explore plus the idea of a massive research lab adds a sense of mystery to the game. The story ties in perfectly with the action and characters and is very well played out. The guns in the game are great as well as the welcoming tact and many uses that comes from the good ol fashioned crowbar. The characters are great and Gordon Freeman is fantastic as a game hero as hes not got magic powers or super abilities, hes classed more as a working class hero which is what many of us gamers have been waiting to see (to hell with duke nukem) The A.I isnt even all that bad considering when this game was made. The enviroment is highly interferable as you can pick up and interfere with nearly everything (vending machines, switches, TV's, Boxes, crowbars, etc..) so the gameplay is rock solid and very well thought out.
Graphics ~~~~~~ Half Life's graphics are outdated these days (obiviously as expected) but even though they are still fairly rock solid. The set pieces look well constructed and the guns have a good look. The charcaters faces are a bit of a mess but hey who am I to get picky. The outside locations arent all that bad either as they give a good feel to the game (outside locations are big and rather vast)
Sound ~~~~ Half Life has great sounds in this game. The guns sound great and very realistic, plus the various echoes when your in massive rooms is very atmospheric, the aliens have great sounds they make from the various 'snarls' to the gorgons weird and eerie noises. The sounds of explosions and boxes getting smashed into as well as the helicopters, the underwater noises, the sewage systems and the welcoming voice of you H.E.V suit are all very appreciated.Specs ~~~~ Minimum

As you see, half life is not a demanding game meaning it can be played by about everyone. All computers built these days will be capable of playing this game.
Overall ~~~~~ Overall Half Life is one of the best games ever to be released on the PC and in fact ps2. This is evident by the amount of awards that this game has won and down to the fact that it is still hailed as 'Best FPS ever' by some. It has so many good things to it that it should belong in the collections of all gamers, or at least all gamers who love FPS. Half Life is one of those games that will never be forgotten and thanks to it, it's spawned a host of mods and sequels that are all fantastic and follow on from this original, ground breaking game.

A real classic game. This game was so great when it came out, and although it hasn't aged well by today's standards, it was such an innovative groundbreaker at the time. I remember being really surprised and frightened when things went wrong in the test chamber in the first level and Gordon was confronted by glimpses of alien creatures, then had to fight his way out of the lab armed with just a crowbar against those yucky headcrabs! Happy days.
