I used to have a Halifax Credit card. Having had a number of accounts with them for thirty years I thought their credit card would be OK. When I took the card out I was told that there was no annual charge and that there never would be. Guess what? Yes, after a few years they brought an annual fee in. I was annoyed about this and wrote to the company to complain. I was more or less told to go away, they could do what they wanted. After thinking about it I cancelled that card although I decided to continue with my other accounts because they'd never done anything else wrong. Then I was contacted by the FSA about a private pension I took out through the Halifax in the 1970's. Seems I had been given the wrong advice. After a full investigation I was granted around £15,000 compensation. Recently I was in a Halifax branch again. A young woman asked me if I wanted to sign up for a Halifax credit card. She said there was no annual fee and never would be... guess what I told her...
