So it’s time for your Ciao payment but you need somewhere to have the payments made. Now of course many people already have bank accounts, but it’s a really good idea to open a separate account just for your Ciao payments. The main reason for this is ease of use. You won’t have to muddle up different bank transfers, worry about missing money and giving away your main bank details. Therefore a separate bank account would be ideal.

Now you are probably thinking that this means you need to visit a local branch, fill in loads of forms after having a discussion with the bank staff. Wait ages for the activation, and in most cases pay a deposit for opening up the account. This is why I suggest the Halifax Web Saver Account.

Web Saver as it suggests is a bank account that run’s from the Internet. Later in this opinion I will review all of the safety features provided for you. Firstly though I would like to explain the easy use of registration.

- Registration -

By visiting http://www.halifax-online.co.uk you can simply register for free, and you must provide the essential details. Such as, Address, Telephone etc. Now these details are all sent by a secure connection, so you can be sure that intruders cannot read your information. (I will explain this in the security section). Now within a few seconds your account is nearly finished. The next step will be to provide your own choice of username. I suggest that use your full name, as it does not need to be anything fancy and flash and you’ll find it much easier to remember. Them you are asked to choose a password. Please note that this has to include numbers and letters, so think of a word, spell it wrong and add 4 random number son the end. This is the best advice that experts give for choosing passwords. Now there are 4 extra security questions that you must answer. These are such things as, “what is your place of birth” and “what is your mother’s maiden name”. You must remember to answer these truthfully and spell them correctly, otherwise you may cause trouble when attempting to log on. Then you can enter your email address and all your account information is sent to you. You can now log into the website from the main welcome page using your username and password. Additionally you are asked to answer randomly one of the four security questions you answered. Now you are logged into the site and you can select from a Variety of Options. Also the Halifax Online Service does not require 10-pound deposits etc. to open your account, so relatively speaking, it’s free!

Setting up Websaver –

From the displayed list you can see the option Websaver. Upon selecting it the Websaver screen is displayed. Now if you are all ready set up with Websaver a list of all of your sub-accounts will be displayed. If not, the list will be blank. This means that you have not got 1 or more websaver options and need to select the “Create New WebSaver Option” button. The screen will then fill with information on how to set up your account. Now depending on a few factors, your age, and if you already own a Halifax Account in any form, you will have to enter different information. For instance, if you already have an account with the Halifax then, you can enter your account’s number and all your information will be processed and your identity confirmed. Now if you don’t already own a Halifax Account then you must select an option to request a form from Halifax to be sent to your home address. This allows you to enter your Passport Details or some legal document of similar status, and attach a photo of yourself. This is to identity you in case of any fraud. I did not have to go through this stage as I already own an Account with The Halifax, so I cannot provide you with any info on how the process is efficient or not, if the case may so be.

However I can explain the next stage in registration after you have been identified by The Halifax either-way. This is the activation code that will be sent to you through the post in a very helpful and friendly letter. You are then simply told to logon and enter your code. This completes the set-up of your account and now you can start to deposit or withdraw money, as and when you want. You can also view your account balance at any time and make transfers to many other bank accounts that are supported by the service.

If you ever decide to open up another Halifax WebSaver Option then you don’t need to activate them or anything similar. The great thing about this is that the Halifax Web Saver allows you to create multiple Sub-Accounts, which you can use for saving for separate reasons.

- Deposit and Withdrawals -

There are many easy methods to deposit money into your account, as well as withdraw money. One of the best methods, is the entire reason for my suggesting this service. And that is by means of bank transfers, which include Ciao. This is done by fetching your Web Saver’s specific account details. You can do this by opening up the option and, then the summary page displays this for you. Then simply enter the corresponding account number into Ciao, and if the transfer successful, a nice some of money shall appear in your account.

Of course the whole process is reversible. Meaning that you can transfer money out of your bank account. I have not any personal experience with this method, but I can still go on to explain how it is done. Quite simply you enter the account details of where you wish to transfer the money too, and then amount that you wish to transfer. You must also on the occasion of the first transfer provide your telephone number so that a Halifax Staff member can confirm in case of any fraud.

But the best way to withdraw and deposit money has to be by an account card. This will be sent you by post, 14 days after activating your Web Saver Account. You must however of selected the option to associate a card with your account upon set up. Otherwise the only way to deposit will be via Bank Transfers and Credit Notes. I personally use this method to withdraw my Ciao payments, and find it very easy and trouble free.

- Security -

Halifax Online from my impressions, is a very safe and secure site. It all runs via an Encrypted server, which means that all of your information, is scrambled up before being sent to The Halifax. This dramatically decreases the risk of hackers and intruders from fraudulent use of your account. The Halifax Group also states that one of their prime concerns is their user’s safety on the Internet. So they offer free downloads of Trend Micro PC-Cillin Antivirus 2000. This is a top of the range product with 30 to 40 pounds so it really does give a good reason to go with The Halifax, even if you just want the software.

- Conclusion -

Personally I am really pleased with Halifax-Online WebSaver, and I feel very safe after Halifax’s efforts at proving their user’s with top class security. It’s a very fast and efficient way to save your payments from Ciao! , and keep them in a safe place separate from any of your other accounts.

I would appreciate it if anyone else has had an experience with Halifax Online and could post it into the comments section.

Thanks,

Fairypancakes.

Nice and helpful opinion, and clearly explained so no problems about rating VH. If you have ever read my comments about Halifax you will know that I am not exactly a great fan of theirs, and they are the ones who are officially to be my employers soon, unless a miracle happens and I can leave for another job. Nevertheless, as a staff member I get 4% on my current account, is there any reason to get a Websaver account? In other words what is the (current) rate? I realise it may vary but an order of magnitude would do. If 8% then it would be worth me switching from the second account I have with Halifax to the web one.

I agree, Halifax websavers are excellent, and offer good rates of interest. I have two, one for holidays and one that I'm saving for my own computer (this is where ciao comes in handy for extra money)
