The Halifax has excellent on-line banking. You chose a password, account sign in name and you answer some questions when you sign up for online banking with them which are security questions that when you sign in you have to answer that they pick to ask.
I have 2 accounts with the Halifax and find them very easy to manage. You can apply for new accounts, credit cards and loans on there website and they also offer you the chance to buy shares. When you log in you will be taken to your bank account selection page were you decide which account you want to look at then click it.
You can see what direct debits you have going out of your bank and when, get a statement and view it when ever you want instead of waiting every month or couple of months for them to send it to you.
You can choose to view all your bank transfers, credits, deposits and withdrawals. Its really good for when your not sure how much money you have left in your bank, instead of having to go all the way to the hole in the wall or your bank you can do it from or at work by logging into your Halifax accounts.
The web site address is www.halifax.co.uk and they offer a wide range of accounts like savings, cash card, current account and business accounts. They do deposit accounts for children from birth so you or anyone else can put money in children’s accounts for when they are older. They also get a welcome pack and moneybox to collect their money before putting it in their bank accounts. They get a bankbook that they take when they put money in or take money out, it’s really simple for children to use and they can see how much they have saved.
Halifax do a solo account were you get a card which you can either get money out of the hole in the wall or just use it at shops to pay for your shopping (as long as the shop takes solo). If you are not sure if the shops take them ask one of the members of staff and they’ll tell you.
You also get a cheque book with the solo account but not a cheque guarantee card, so you can send cheques to pay for bills and then you can check on line when the money had been taken from your account. With solo you don’t get an overdraft facility but you do with the current accounts. You will be given a pin number to use with your card
You can take up to £300 out of the hole in the wall but if you want more you have to go into the bank to withdrawal money. You can also have telephone banking with the Halifax were again you will get a username and password and have to answer a security question, there is also the option of using a wap mobile phone for your banking.
The forms are really easy and clear to fill out online or offline at the Halifax bank. The staffs are very helpful and are there to answer any questions that you might have. They have a 24hr telephone number for you to phone if your card or chequebook gets lost or stolen. You can use your card in most hole in the wall machines. Some other banks do charge you for using there machines but a lot of them don’t.
The halifax is quick, easy and simple to use and the customer services are very good and if they can't help when yuo are on the phone to them they will phone you back the same day, you can also see them in the halifax branch were you are.
Advantages: Plenty of articles, has some messageboards, excellant quotes facilities Disadvantages: They've just ditched their Shares portfolio service, which was light years better than any similar service on the 'net
