I recently opened a Halifax account and closed it less than two months later. My experience with the Halifax has meant that it is unlikely that I will ever bank with them ever again. While my experience wasn't all that bad, the gross incompetence (in my opinion of this financial institution left me doubting their ability to cope with anything. I was enticed to open a WebSaver account, lured in by the promise of Beenz and a high interest rate. The account made all sorts of promises and delivered none of them. It promised the ability to manage the account by the internet, linking it to other accounts. It took me quite a while to work out how to get any money into the account. I had to go into the branch to pay money in in order to activate the account. Once the account was activated, I tried to transfer some money from my Lloyds account. I eventually found out that they did not offer that service yet. I tried to transfer the money I had paid in into a fixed term option. This would have given an even higher interest rate, but again this was not available yet. On top of this they never gave me the Beenz I'd been promised. All in all, this account was an unfinished shambles and I closed it as soon as I could. I had e-mailed the Halifax twice asking them for help and each time they answered my queries quickly and accurately. Can't fault their support, only their account.

Advantages: Plenty of articles, has some messageboards, excellant quotes facilities Disadvantages: They've just ditched their Shares portfolio service, which was light years better than any similar service on the 'net
