When I was very desperate to get this book, after reading Halo: The Fall of Reach. It was not being sold anywhere in the UK. Its excitement had died out after me being two years late. So I brought it of eBay. Having read the actual book, I thought it was quite good... but... when I was reading it, I kept on thinking to myself: "Couldn't anyone just play a game and write a book about the game and become a millionaire easily?"
Yes, they could. It was annoyed me that the fact that this book isn't really mind-made. But this book is just copied, following on what The Fall of Reach had done. But anyway, in my opinion I liked the storyline of the book. But to be honest, I don't know if it was just me, not having the patience or time - I found some bits really long, boring and dull.
The storyline is based on the game, the Pillar of Autumn crashes on Halo. leaving the only Spartan left, the Master Chief to find Captain Keyes. Only to find more Covenant and an outbreak of a died out species called 'The Flood'... (I won't say too much). But with having William C. Dietz just added a few more characters and another fictional storyline in the book. If you read this book, I just want to share you with this: Did you like the fictional characters? Do you think that they should of been in the games? It kind of spoilt the book.
So, as a result, all the Halo books in the series follow on one another, taking place what happened after the first book, then another book copies the game, then another book takes place and makes up its story by its self. So, could Halo: The Flood be useful to Bungie? I think so. Bungie copied some things on Halo: The Flood as well as The Fall of Reach. Like, take the Helljumpers, ODST's, the ability that the Covenant can talk! Their own storyline, which was featured in Halo 2. So I think that Halo: The Flood proved itself useful to Bungie and us.
