Advantages light

Disadvantages can't adjust height much

This Hama tripod was one of the first one I ever bought. As I started getting interested in photography I started buying additions to try and improve the quality of my photographs. What I should have done from the beginning was realise what I needed was a better camera!

I bought the tripod from eBay and paid around £2.99.

*Price and availability*

The tri pod is available online and is stocked in online photography stores and Amazon. You can buy it for around £6.46 for brand new or you can buy it second hand from eBay. I’d probably recommend that if you wanted to buy one, go for second hand and find a bargain.

*Description*

The tri pod is black and the legs are made from a very light metal. It does feel a bit flimsy however the one I have is second hand and it is still in good working order. The main advantage of it being made out of this material means that it makes it very light. The tri pod only weighs 268 g.

The tri pod folds up and is quite flat when folded. This means that coupled with the lightness, it is perfect for carting round and throwing in your rucksack.

The three legs have little rubber feet so that when you stand it on something it doesn’t slide around. You can’t adjust the legs cm by cm and you can only have it at 22.5 or 43cm high. If the camera is used on uneven surfaces then there is the risk it will topple over as the legs can not be extended to compensate for inclines.

To extend you pull the legs out until they click and to put away they push back in. This is very hard to do and it is always a concern I will trap my fingers.

To attach your camera there is a standard tripod screw fit with ¼” thread. I used it with a Cannon camera and it fitted fine. I currently have a Nikon p100 and the tripod will support it because of the size of the zoom.

The head of tri pod rotates on a ball tilt head making it easy to swing around and position. There is a tilt option so you can angle the camera to suit the photograph you are wanting to take, however it does leave bigger cameras a little unsupported, making the tri pod a little unstable.

*Overall*

For the price I was fairly content with the purchase. It is cheap looking and quite hard to get the legs back in making it quite frustrating. The size is also a problem, it is great for standing on tables or flat surfaces but on anything with a slight incline the tri pod just isn’t stable.

I also found that as I tried to angle the camera if it was much more than 90 degrees the camera pulled the tri pod over!

I’d recommend people shopped around before deciding on this model. It is cheap looking with limited features and it is really hard to use.
