I truly realise why I love books so much when I come across one that leaves you boring your friends with lines of 'In that Richard Hammond book I read...' and "That reminds me of a book I just read..." This book is a frank and honest look at how a serious brain injury can effect you and your loved ones. Hammond, with his genuinely appealling and humorous manner, takes you through the stages up to his crash and his recovery. His wife writes her account of the crash in an equally honest and poignant way. You don't need to like Top Gear or Hammond to appreciate this book. It not only allows you to see how remarkable and fragile the human brain is but the many factors that effected his recovery - such as the media, the public and his close relationships. A story that stays in your mind long after you've finished the final page. ...

The cheeky little chap from such shows as Brainiac and most noteably Top Gear provides us with the story of Richard Hammond from Birth to ( well just about finish ) current. Wriiten with his wife Mindy this tells the story of the little chain smoking yorkshire lad, who has gone on to be a fans favourite within the motoring world.
Starting from his childhood troubles and his love for the late great Evil Kneival, the stunts the crashes and the need to be noticed is gripping as you wander through this book. As you approach the crash day you will find yourself reading on late at night. The book looks from this point on about the troubles that lay ahead for Richard, Mindy and the kids.

As if having the Lake District, South West Scottish Coast and Hadrian's Wall Country all within a stones throw away isn't lucky enough for us here in Carlisle, we also have 2 spectacular parks in the city. One, Bitts Park, sits in the city centre on the banks of the river Eden, while the other hides on the outskirts of a council estate. Hammond's Pond can be found on the South side of the city, just past the Upperby estate and opposite Carlisle race course. It really is quite surprisingly beautiful and scenic, with plenty of facilities, and for various reasons the one I favour most.
