Advantages: Specialise in media and entertainment recruitment Disadvantages: Not always up to date in removing filled vacancies from their job listings
It is quite difficult to find agencies that specialise in the entertainment industry, so when I found out about Handle Recruitment I wasted no time in checking out their website.
The site is quite easy to navigate. When you first enter there is a menu screen and a picture of silhouetted figures. If you position your mouse over the figures it will bring up the menu under that figure.
There are 6 menus:

Testimonials - contains client opinions of the agency.
Useful Tips - provides advice on the music industry/cv writing tips/interview techniques and frequently asked questions.
Job Search - has a tip on how to conduct a successful search and how to apply for any advertised vacancies. It has pull down menus for Business Sector and Industry Sector and a Keyword search.
About Us - provides information on their 4 divisions: Secretarial/Temporary/Finance/Executive.
Admin - contains a variety of downloadable registration forms and an online typing test to hone your typing speed.
Contact Us - displays contact information and a map to show where they are based.
Once you have submitted your job search using any the Business/Industry Sector menus or keyword search, the vacancies appear listed under job title followed by 2 lines of the job description and a link to view the full details and print description. Beneath this it displays the job type ie Temporary or Permanent, Location, Start Date, Salary, Contact E-mail, Date posted on site and Job Reference.
I used this site while looking for a new job and found my current job through them. The job database is updated for new jobs regularly. One thing I did notice is that job details for vacancies that had been filled were not removed as regularly but the posting date is helpful in this case, as you can see how new the vacancy is.
Once you submit your CV by e-mail to the named contact, they telephone you within a couple of hours. If you have not registered you are required to do so in person. This consists of an informal chat with their friendly consultants about what you are looking for and your past experience. Their office is comfortable and modern complete with entertainment. You don't have to dress smartly to register - I went in jeans.
If you are selected for an interview with a company Handle e-mail you a full job description and person specification and also tell you who you will be meeting and what they are like. They also provide you with advice for your interview. After the interview you are given plenty of feedback and they keep you up to date and informed to what is happening until the decision day. If your initial interview is not successful they actively search for similar roles for you.
I would definitely recommend this agency for any looking for an entertainment role with the London area.
Advantages: Nice Website Disadvantages: Amount of Vacancies.
The Handle website, well what can i say? in the wonderful world of work websites (4 W's) Handle does stick out as one of the easiest and most user friendly that i have seen of late, it also has the option of the typing test which is a real bonus when your typing skills are not utilised as they should be, as it helps to sharpen up one's speed.
The big drawback, and it is a big one, is the amount of vancancies they actually have on line, call me picky ... ...in the cut and thrust world of recruitment!
Ok it does specialise in the entertainment industry but all the same the choice is not impressive.
I liked the choice when logged on of having the website in 'Flash' or 'Flat' as the option does not always present itself and the ease of finding your way around the site is impressive.
Apart from everything else, if you are seeking work at present like me, give Handle a go and see what you think.
Happy ...

Advantages: Ubiquitous Disadvantages: Lazy filtering, poor quality staff, no display of expert judgement
For some reason media companies often reach for Handle when looking to fill a position. Always a big mistake. They are perhaps the least imaginative or intelligent, guilty of the worst forms of lazy filtering... meaning you will rarely get to see the best candidate, only the ones which someone with no insight would deem the 'closest match' to what they misunderstood you were looking for in the first place! They have an air of pride and arrogance ... ...combined lack of expertise or understanding of the industry, and their disappointingly under-qualified staff. The website is good, once you learn to ignore their meaningless categories, however don't be fooled - you're not paying for the flashy website - you're paying for the selection of candidates you will receive. If you are considering using this agency, make sure you list with at least one other. ...

statement, and your reference is attached. An external referee (if you're at Sixth Form College you will be assigned one) will attach your reference to the form once you've completed your bits. The reference is usually written by your tutor at college. There are also additional fees if you apply to Oxbridge universities; however these are handles outside ucas.co.uk.
The application also includes current qualifications, and employment and criminal history, as well as the personal statement and a reference (which generally includes predicted grades if the applicant is still in education). Your completed form is then sent to your University Choices where heads of departments will sieve through the applicants, before deciding upon you. A lot of universities take only a couple of weeks to decide (Manchester!), but others take months (Edinburgh ...
