Advantages: Cheap, easy to set up Disadvantages: None really
I have 2 computers. One was almost always in a state of disarray. It was the machine that was being used to test boards and software on, so it was not my working machine. When my wife moved her office downstairs she took with her the better of the 2 machines and left me with the ratty one. As the monitor was almost next to useless I decided on a rebuild. As the Radeon had a choice of outputs, digital and analogue, I could use my ancient monitor. This 17 inch monitor was huge and took up an immense amount of space. The motherboard, memory and processor were fine, the hard drive was quite large, and the rest of the ancillary stuff was reasonably OK except for the graphics card. This was replaced with a Radeon board, (reviewed elsewhere.) As the Radeon had a choice of outputs, digital and analogue, I could use my ancient monitor. This 17 inch monitor was huge and took up an immense amount of space. It also took great gulps of electricity! so it had to go. I had bought the Radeon from Misco, and their service was good, so I used them again.
These are the main specifications that are understandable and useful to a buyer!
19 inch screen. The body is a bit bulkier extending an inch either side.
The image is a conventional shape, not wide screen.
It's roughly 6 inches from front to back.
The monitor sits on a plinth and the screen can be tilted. This has to be fitted when the monitor is set up. A little fiddly as the monitor weighs about 6 kilogrammes, and you have to tilt it and fit it upside down. There is no overall height adjustment which is not unusual.
There are apparently 6 adjusting buttons on the front, but only 5 do any thing. The first on the left is an automatic adjuster which does not appear to have any effect at all!. The next is the volume up button. This doubles as one of the control buttons when in the screen adjusting menu. The next button is the on/off button. this is illuminated green when th monitor is on, flashes orange when there is no signal, and off ,when there is no power or switched off. The next button is the other control button. The next to the end button accesses the monitor control screen. It is possible to fine tune these controls and range from brightness, contrast, colour, default colour, where you can adjust the colour temperature as well as fine tuning the colour too. It is possible to drill down in the image setting and adjust the screen size and position.
Almost any particular setting can be changed. The menus are quite easy to follow and don't require the manual.
There is also a choice of inputs so if I wanted to fit a DVI lead to this monitor I could. Expect to pay £30 plus for one of these at a large retailer! I used the analogue lead that Hanns supplied. This is an adequate length and quality.
Ease of set up. The computer already had the Radeon drivers installed. Plugged in the Hanns and fitted the lead started the PC, everything fine. The picture was to one side so this was adjusted back into the middle. The size was adjusted so the picture fit into the screen. The brightness was turned down a tad.
I then dived into the display icon on the control panel and adjusted the settings to 1280 x1024 on the 32 bit setting.
Adjusted the colour temperature and the contrast too.
This is good for the general sort of IT I use. This set up quite disappointing really no chance to play, works very well.
General opinions after 3 months. Reliable bright, sharp monitor, keeps its settings. Doesn't noticeably cause any eye strain. The brightness is even over the whole screen. Reliable, has worked every time and I can't detect any dead pixels! The slimness has been a revelation. I can spread papers out in front of it. The improvement in desk space has been useful. As it uses a lot less power and I feel less guilty about leaving it on too.
I haven't tried the sound, reports say it ranges from adequate to poor. The overall appearance is a bit dated too.
The minus points are not really important, performance is good if not great.
Misco sell it for £114. I don't think you could find better for the same price!
I use my computer for my work as a Music Copyist, so needed a monitor that was within budget (approx. £150), could give me the clarity on screen that I required, look good and take up far less room than my old, fat monitor.
After shopping around both shops and the internet, I came across a review for Hanns-G computer products. The review told me that whilst Hanns-G made top-spec equipment, they sold for a much lower price than their main competitors ... ...to the competition, and therefore wanted to create their own foothold.
Hanns-G it is then! That's what I decided, as it certainly narrowed down my search (so many monitors!!). As well as an excellent screen display, looks were important to me in my new monitor - as it's something that I will be keeping (hopefully) for years, until I need to upgrade.
So, I was looking specifically for a Hanns-G monitor, that looked good, and was in my price range ...

have had mine since june 07. i use the computer every day for various things from graphic work using proffessional graphics programs to everyday stuff including surfing the web social sites and video calls to my significant other in america every nite. graphics and resolution i have no fault with i am very happy over all with the screen the image to me is perfect. the controls are simple to use. the wires are out of way at the back though this does ... ...into tower for me at least but then that means remembering to turn down the volume : ) the screen is huge, and the appearence is attracive. and smart.
there is only one fault i have with this monitor. and that is the speakers. for every day use and video calls its more than adiquate however play music files and you realise the quality is less than perfect. if i dont listen to music i hardly notice problems with the quality unless it gets too loud. ...

Advantages: Cheap, solid Disadvantages: Not feature packed, problems with high refresh rates, stand not height adjustable
I've had this for a couple of months now and its been awesome. Cheapest 19 inch monitor ever, does everything a monitor should do and for the price I can't complain.
Although not as sharp as others I use (Hp ones at work are crystal clear) does the job nicely and takes up less space on my desktop than my old 19inch crt. Also has digital and analogue inputs. Not sure about speaker quality as I don't use them, but according to some they aren't much ...

Advantages: Neat, large, cheap Disadvantages: Chunky like a kitkat
They say it helps to have the thing in front of you if you're reviewing it, and never has that been so true as now. Standing proudly to attention, the HU196D is a beauty. With lovely round edges safe enough to bounce a small child on and wiring that slips silently away from the back of the monitor like a gentle stream, the monitor is extremely neat.
I don't know much about computers and the specs, and I won't pretend to here, but one thing I will ... ...the NIA for monitors with less than 5% blink levels. And all that for less than 4438:5 energy output value... outstanding! In English that means that it's really clear and bright and stuff.
I got it as part of a deal with my computer, but I'm pretty sure that this is one of the cheapest around for it's size, and considering I've not had a fault with it, it's spiffing value for money.
I would say, however, that it is not the most repositionable ...
