...but I eventually picked the Hansol 710P from the vast selection on offer.
As far as the particular site that I bought it from, there wasn’t much to choose between jungle.com and dabs.com for price in the end. I picked dabs.com as they were slightly cheaper (at £159.79) and had the quickest delivery time (so they claimed anyway). The nearest comparative monitor I could find to the 710P was a full £35 more for a similar specification ... ...I choose it? Well, the Hansol 710P monitor gives a high resolution and refresh rate, which was the most important area I considered after screening (what a BAD pun I’m so sorry) out other models for price. The dot pitch of 0.26mm is also a good factor at this level. These features together provide a crisp picture, even at the maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200.
According to the manufacturers it has been specifically designed for ... more
I can honestly say that a before looking around and researching, I knew absolutely nothing about monitors. If they came on and worked I didn’t really worry about them in the slightest. Until mine started acting up that is.
It was a little old, the screen was starting to flicker noticeably and it was dated for the applications I was asking it to run. I finally accepted that it must be consigned to the scrapheap and replaced with a more capable piece of kit.
The first decision was easy. I needed (wanted really) a bigger screen, so I first waded through the raft of opinions here on Ciao and on Dooyoo on 17” monitors. It didn’t make my choice any easier as everyone rated each of the monitors highly. That's the problem with giving nice fluffy VH ratings all the time, when someone is REALLY trying to use the opinion to help in deciding whether or not to buy a piece of kit it's seriosuly annoying.
I set a budget of £200 for my new monitor, and then started the onerous task of trawling the internet, looking at various models within my price limit on various sites such as buy.com, jungle.co.uk, insight.com and dabs.com (I found these to be the best ones). It took almost a week to narrow the search down to a few models, but I eventually picked the Hansol 710P from the vast selection on offer.

I picked dabs.com as they were slightly cheaper (at £159.79) and had the quickest delivery time (so they claimed anyway). The nearest comparative monitor I could find to the 710P was a full £35 more for a similar specification at that point in time. Prices will no doubt still be changing so my advice is to do what I did and scour the net and stick to your set budget.
Why / how did I choose it? Well, the Hansol 710P monitor gives a high resolution and refresh rate, which was the most important area I considered after screening (what a BAD pun I’m so sorry) out other models for price. The dot pitch of 0.26mm is also a good factor at this level. These features together provide a crisp picture, even at the maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200.
According to the manufacturers it has been specifically designed for detailed applications such as CAD work. I personally do not use it for this at home, but I do use CAD applications at work and would feel very confident of the 710P performing well on them. As a bonus i'd say the picture is of an equal, if not better quality to the CAD monitors I have used in my work. It's very crisp indeed and is (in my eyes) virtually flicker free.
Hansol 710P Main Features:
• 17" screen (with 16" actual viewing screen area) • Maximum resolution 1600 x 1200 (runs at 75Hz) • 0.26mm dot pitch • 5 languages in the on screen display (OSD) • “Degauss” function which eliminates the build-up of magnetic fields • Fully Windows 95, 98 and ME compatible • PC and Mac compatible (adapter needed for Mac) • Three year on site warranty
Most of the other 17” monitors on the market right now will not give the display capabilities available here. I found most at this price range (£150 to £200) offer a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1040 with a dot pitch of 0.27mm at best. Essentially this lower dot pitch should give the monitor a more detailed and less flickering display. The higher the refresh rate (in Hz) then the less flicker will be seen by the human eye. I can’t make any flicker out at all (whereas with my previous monitor I could just make out a slight flickering).
It complies with MPR-II, Energy Star guidelines, and with TCO 99 standards for low radiation, heat reduction, and energy efficiency. It is classified as a class B digital product and complies with the relevant legislation (i.e. it shouldn’t interfere with any local radio frequencies). Not something I had even considered but still nice to know in hindsight.
The 5 Language OSD (On-screen display) is simple and straightforward to use (it has to be for me to adjust anything!). I found the configuration and set-up to be quick and easy too (it comes supplied with the windows drivers on a 1.44mb floppy disk). On boot up with the new monitor attached the system will guide you through the steps.
I have used it so far on many different applications and have found it has increased the efficiency and speed of my system (but I was using a poor monitor so I wouldn’t read too much into this). I can now realistically play DVD movies on my system. Trying to watch them before on a 15” screen was a nightmare and must have been extremely bad for my eyesight. As far as watching DVDs on the screen I have to say i'm pretty impressed, but obviously it's not as good as the convention TV method. Damn close though.
I am very impressed by the Hansol 710P so far and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their 15” monitor or who are looking for an inexpensive replacement.
Very good value for money indeed, with a three year guarantee to boot! I've now been using this for over a year and not a solitary problem with it so far. One of the best computer buys i've made to date for sure.
P.S. ====
On a final point I have to say well done to dabs.com (they delivered within 48 hours of receiving my order by email). No dents, all the parts in the box and an email confirmation every step of the way.
Advantages: High resolution, seems fairly durable Disadvantages: Casing is rather large
This monitor came with a computer that I bought back in September 1999 . It has a 17 inch tube and is capable of resolutions up to 1600x1200 pixels - higher than most monitors can manage. Higher resolutions are good because it means you get more pixels, so can fit more windows on your screen at once. The monitor has a VGA connector (the same as most monitors) and comes with a swivelly base so that it can be rotated and tilted up or down with ease.
... ...and it has travelled about 3000 miles in total in a car boot (travelling with me to uni and back three times a year) and still works as well as it did when I bought it, the picture hasn't degraded at all so I guess it must be fairly robust.
The monitor has an OSD (On Screen Display) for adjusting the settings. The settings available are:
Brightness - controls how light or dark the picture is
Contrast - controls how much difference there is between ...

Advantages: Good resolution, good refresh rates Disadvantages: Poor visual quality, too big
I brought a Hansol 710P about 6 months ago from Dabs Direct. I was looking for a cheap monitor that produced sharp images, and the Hansol seemed the best choice because of good reviews people gave it.
The Hansol does have its strong points - its resolution of up to 1600 by 1200 is unmatched inthe price range, and its refresh rates are equally impressive, giving it a nice bright image. Its on screen display was adequate, though I don't think this ... ...had problems with the monitor when it arrived though. There was a slight 'ghosting' effect to the right of images on the screen, which was particularly visible when displaying text, even at a resolution of 1024 by 768. I returned the first monitor, and received another, but it had the same problem, and the projected image on the new one seemed to 'vibrate' at times. This time I asked for a refund, and brought the Samsung 750s instead (which I recommend ...

Advantages: Good specifications for price Disadvantages: Questionable build quality
I purchased the Hansol 710p monitor about 7 months ago, i primarily chose this monitor becasuse it was a good 17" monitor with lots of features (high refresh rate and good reseloutions) and when i got it i wasn't dssapointed. It isn't as good picture quality as my previous 15" Sony trinitron monitor but it isn't far off and it is far bigger and thats what counts :)
It has an on screen display with more features than US states and is controlled by ... ...the spec sheet at the Hansol website you'll see that it has all the features of a £200 monitor all at a lower cost. It's colour sensitivity is good and it's design is standard
The one quiblle i do have with this monitor is it's questionable build quality, after about 1 month it intermittently started making high pitched noises for about 2 weeks then stopped, now it has started again and it gives you a real headache even on turning the monitor off ...

Advantages: Sharp display, vibrant colours, dimensions and price. Disadvantages: None
...an affordable price tag. The Hansol 710P suits my needs perfectly.
Trying to find a 17" monitor with a sharp 0.26mm dot pitch is a conquest alone, but to my surprise the 710P offered this and a superb refresh rate of up to 85Hz. This results in flicker free performance which is excellent for people who stare at a monitor for lengthy spells.
Perhaps the best aspect of this monitor is the units depth, which is surprisingly small for a 17" monitor, ...

Advantages: Very competively priced. Disadvantages: None that I can think of.
...before finally opting for the Hansol 710P. The price seems too good to be true but I've had my Hansol for nearly six months without the slightest bit of a problem with it - although if I had the monitor comes with a 3 year onsite warranty. I paid £160 for mine and I would consider it to be the best money I've ever spent. The display is very clear, the colours vibrant and the supported refresh rates mean that there is no perceptible flicker at 800x600. ...

Advantages: Picture quality, vibrant colours Disadvantages: Doesn't have high resolutions
I bought the Samsung 750s after returning a Hansol710P. I was disappointed with the Hansol, but the Samsung was a different story. It only cost £150 from PC World, and was exactly what I was looking for.
The case is good looking and small, the viewable size good at 16", and the on screen display easy to use. The thing that makes this monitor great, though, is the image quality. The colours are amazingly bright and vibrant - almost as good as some Sony flatscreens I've seen. There is no shadowing, and the display is crisp, making it ideal for general use.
The one thing I would say is that if you want high resolutions, this is perhaps not the monitor to go for. Its great up to 1024*768, which is what I like to run a 17" monitor, but higher than this it only runs at 60Hz, which reduces quality, and might stress the eye if used ...
Advantages: Great Product, Great Price, Even Better Service Disadvantages: It did blow up once
I was going to buy a Hansol710P but when I saw the flat screen version for just £25 more I decided to go for it.
The 710D is a joy to use with a greater spec and a great picture to back it up. For the exact specs follow the link above to the web site (which is also very good).
I got the monitor as part of a system I was having built by my local back street specialist. The PC is primarily a games PC so therefore I needed a monitor that could support high refresh rates at high resolutions which the 710D can.
I received the monitor and it was great until it blew up 5 days later. So I looked on the web site for the warranty details. I had not looked in to the warranty much before buying (which I should have) but it was great. A next day exchange promised or a free upgrade, cool. I phoned the number and was told it should be ...
