LaCie 1 TB Big Disk Hard Drive
Review of LaCie Big Disk Hard drive 1 TB by ilaskey

Advantages: Capacity, looks, decent manual, cheap
Disadvantages: A bit slow, a lot to lose in one go

...years ago. The LaCie (pronounced Lassie, like the dog) 1TB unit is a reasonably basic device that only has a USB2 (although USB1 is supported) interface and comes with a suitable lead, external power supply and software CD. It can work with both PCs and Macs although by default it's formatted for PC use so Mac users will need to reformat it first but that's no hardship really. On first opening the box, it looks really good with a great finish making ...
...drives suffer. The LaCie tries to be as quiet as possible with a case designed to cool passively but it does have a fan around the back that kicks in when needed. In my case, this was fairly often but then I only tend to switch the drive on to use it, it's rarely left idling. The front contains an on/off button that also doubles as a power and activity light. The combination of blue against the aluminium case is pretty nice so thumbs up there. A ... Read review

Another whopper!
Review of My Book Studio Edition WDH1Q10000 1 TB by thewhitewolf

Advantages: size, speed, et al
Disadvantages: n/a

...Vista. I moved all of my games and some music files to the hard disk, along with backups of university work, and photos (the 3 rules of computing are back up, back up, back up!). Performance It transfers at a rate of 480 Mbps which in practise turned out to be surprisingly fast. Access time was very quick, 12ms per second seek time, so within the hour i had backed up and transferred my files!. I have had no trouble streaming games and movies from ...
...is as instant as a normal hard disk drive. It can be stored on it's side, or standing up right. They can also be stacked, if 500gb isn't enough for you! There is no circular light around the on/off button to as on the MyBook western digital range. During powerdown of your computer, the hard disk will automatically turn off, so there is no need to turn it off yourself. I would thoroughly recommend this product due to its great reliability and very ... Read review

Excellent hard drive!
Review of My Book Home Edition WDH1CS10000 1 TB by thewhitewolf

Advantages: excellent!
Disadvantages: none!

...that i liked that offered my requirements in a nice handy little black box. Design Its presented in a big box, and I was very relieved (and also surprised) to see how small it actually is! At 8cm in width, by 1.5 in height and 13 cm in depth, the passport fails to take up much space on your desk or on top of your pc tower. Its a miniscule 105 gs which means i can hold it in one palm quite easily. The black enclosure case is attractive and i hardly ...

A Good Buy
Review of Iomega Desktop Hard Drive Professional Series Triple Interface 750 GB by thewhitewolf

Advantages: lots of space
Disadvantages: none

This is a bargain that i couldn't pass up without buying. 750GB's should keep me going for several years and more. I bought this hard drive for £101 and it has been a pleasure to use. It's a doddle to set up and install and the fast rate of transfer makes file sharing very efficient and easy. Design The portable hard drive comes in an attractive silver case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It is a desktop drive and cant really be moved around ...
...easy to follow and it installed by windows wizard as soon as i plugged it in, so within 20 minutes i was backing up my files. Performance Performance is good for a portable hard disk, and there was no real difference in speed between the two interfaces. T Features It doesn't ship with backup software, just file-synchronisation software, but this serves a similar purpose. A two-plug USB splitter cable and a six-pin FireWire cable are included ...
