Your data should be safe
Review of Western Digital My Book Essential Edition WDG1U5000 500 GB by FirstToTry

Advantages: Fast, nice design, prevents data loss and corruption
Disadvantages: slows down the start up time (unknown reason)

General Western Digital specialises in producing external hard drives therefore their products are of good quality. The My Book Essential offers 500Gb which is more than enough for a standard user (Family usage). You can back up your pictures, videos, documents and programs without running out of space. Design The HD has a slick design and the shape of a book; it is small however not small enough to be a portable hard drive. But this ...
...buying this HD think of it as your home HD. Performace It is fast and reacts accoring to the computer - when system is being shut down the external HHD shuts down as well. Data stored on the drive is really secure; it happened more than once that my mate unplugged the drive while being used - still no loss or corruption of data (very good!). With 7200rpm there is no delay when playing music or games from your hard drive. More Offers ... Read review

Very good portable storage solution
Review of WD Passport Portable WDXMS1600 160 GB by UKAnonymous2007

Advantages: Small, stylish and fast
Disadvantages: None really

I bought it on amazon.co.uk in March 2007. At least at the time, it was the cheapest reseller I managed to find. I'm very happy with the drive. If you just need to keep it at home and never carry it around, you'll be better off with a drive that requires external power: they tend to be bulkier but faster and cheaper. If instead you need to carry it around, this is the perfect choice: USB-powered, small and stylish. About as big as 2 passports, ... Read review

Freecom 500Gb External USB Drive
Review of Freecom Hard Drive Hard drive 500 GB by ratking

Advantages: fast, spacious and very quiet
Disadvantages: none really...

...the drive that contains some Freecom software but I haven't used it yet. Within minutes of installing the drive I was transferring over 300GB of data to it and in use I have found the drive to be almost silent, even when transferring gigabytes of data you can only just about hear the drive running and the transfer rates seem excellent for a USB drive (although I haven't actually checked what the rates actually are). The casing does get a little warm ...
...would recommend it without hesitation. I have had several external drives over the years and currently also have a WD MyBook 500Gb external drive but I would easily recommend this drive over the MyBook because I have found the Freecom to be quieter, faster, cooler in use and better looking. ... IOMEGA 500GB EXTERNAL USB HARD DRIVE
Review of Iomega Desktop Hard Drive Value Series Hard drive 500 GB by mrjwood

Advantages: Easy installation, looks good, ease of use
Disadvantages: None found

I've bought two of these drives now and am very impressed. On opening the box you'll find the following: The drive itself, power supply, USB cable and an instruction leaflet. The drive feels solid and well built, although the aluminium case does have some sharp edges near the front where it joins the plastic bezel. The drive comes formatted to FAT32, but this is easily changed to NTFS. Being a curious sort, I took one apart to find out the manufacturer ...
...a Seagate Barracuda, not the bottom of the range drive I was expecting! Installation under Windows XP/Vista is a doddle, just plug in the power cable, plug in the USB cable, switch it on and it's automatically detected and ready to go. In use, both drives have proved very reliable, and although transfer speeds over USB 2.0 are never going to set the world on fire, it's more than acceptable for storing and replaying your films on as I'm doing. ... A hard to damage hard drive!
Review of Iomega eGo Portable Hard drive 250 GB by thebigc1690

Advantages: Tough, fast and inexpensive!
Disadvantages: None to date.

...even just want. The Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive in question has a 250Gb capacity which when used along with your original hard drive or probably even on its own is more than enough for most. Some external hard drives look and are very bulky and cumbersome, this one being designed to be portable is a lot less so. It is fairly light weight but very robust and also has the distinct advantage of looking good which a lot certainly do not. Ok so it`s ...
...the other drives out there for functionality? Well the simple answer is yes it can and very well too, this drive is not only a good looker but also a very good performer. It connects to your PC or laptop via USB and needs no external power supply. It has a Data Transfer Rate of 480 Mbps which is up there with the best and has the following system requirements, Windows 2000/XP/Vista - Pentium II - RAM 256 MB MacOS X 10.1.5 or later - PowerPC G3 - ...
