MAXTOR BASIC 3200 500GB
Review of Maxtor Basics Personal Storage 3200 500 GB by
IanHoareCiao
Advantages: When working - Fast, convenient, massive capacity.
Disadvantages: Not reliable
Started off very well.
Plug and play as promised, via USB. Very easy to use, quick access : very simple to create folders and upload all those things you want to backup (you do keep backups, don't you?!). So on went all my MP3s, pictures, software, in case of a disk crash on my PC
No problems for the first 8 months.
Then it stopped working. Looked like it just wouldn't power up (green light only faintly flickered). Try to take back to shop under ... ...NO data transfer. The word 'limited' is the key here.
Overall very dissatisfied. A so-called high quality product which has proved to be very shoddy with no after-sales backup. Oh, and it came with a free Trojan virus.
Having read many other reviews for the same product, the above I have described is not uncommon.
I wouldn't buy another one. ...

Maxtor Maxline III 250GB, Outstanding HDD
Review of Maxtor MaXLine III 250 GB by
andybuck123
Advantages: 5 year warranty, further testing to insure quality, low sound, fast, can be put in Raid
Disadvantages: N/A
...I have also previously owned Maxtor HDD's and they have been brilliant.
I came across the Maxline III range as they offer an extended guarantee (5 years) and have been tested more thoroughly. This gave me some security in thinking these HDD's would be stable and would not crash etc.
Well since i bought them over a year ago I have had no faults or complaints with them at all. I have installed XP on them a few times (due to formatting) and it has ... ...is about 20mins from start to finish.
Boot times are also much quicker than they used to be which is a plus.
The noise emissions from my old HDD were quite noticeable but these HDD's are very quiet, you have to be close to the case to even hear them.
In conclusion a highly recommended product, I would gladly buy another one or two for that matter and put them in Raid again. ...

Very Easy to Use
Review of Maxtor Basics Personal Storage 3200 320 GB by
streetsmart
Advantages: Easy, affordable
Disadvantages: None
...and broken. As Maxtor is using USB port the data transfer speed is quite good. Its just like when we are copying and pasting data from one folder to another, its really like that easy. I have purchased it in December 2006 in after christmas sales from PC World in nearly £80 and since then I am using it constantly without any problem. It is used like my regualr hard disk attached with my computer. Its good for everyone, either an IT professional with ...

good value for money 200GB SATA drive
Review of Maxtor SATA Ultra Hard Drive Kit 200 GB by
poiufungus
Advantages: very good value for money, under 35p per GB
Disadvantages: need a SATA connector on motherboard and cables
this hard drive is very inexpensive for its size, its also very quiet. if your looking for an easy to install and cheap way of storing masses of data then this is the hard drive for you.
the drive is very reliable and i have yet to experience a problem with it 6 months later. it can run practically non stop as well and shows no sign of performance loss. i have left it running for around 75% of the time i have had it.
you do need a SATA slot on ...

HDD 300 gb
Review of Maxtor OneTouch III FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 300 GB by
Aka2097
Advantages: USB 2.0 and Firewire
Disadvantages: Not the lightest thing around 1.5kg
First of all this HDD id like to say this is a very good HDD but it not to good if your planning to carry it around it ways around 1.5kg and then there's the power cable, the drive is big too 13.6 cm x 6.5 cm x 21.7 cm, so not very portable.
The HDD capacity is 300GB but actually is slightly less around 285GB. The HDD use USB 2 and Firewire (6 pin) using the USB cable data transfer is very fast about 450mbs with a good USB card and the same goes ... ...The average seek time is around 9ms. The internal buffer size is 16mb with really makes this HDD very fast at reading and writhing. It has a standard spindle speed of 7200rpm.
The installation is extremely simple just plug and play and it does jut that well with XP it does. This is great value for money as long as you intend to leave it at home. ...
