250GB Beast!
Review of Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVE 250 GB by
buckyohare
Advantages: 250GB of internal memory!! At a reasonable price, too!
Disadvantages: No major disadvantages. Not as quiet as I believed it would be.
...low, this 250GB drive from Western Digital was the highest capacity ATA internal drive I could find at a reasonable price, and so far it has not let me down!
It took a bit of effort to clone my original hard drive to the new one, which required the purchase of an external hard drive enclosure, but once the process was completed, I simply removed my old hard drive, insterted the new one and was ready to go! And now I have my old 60GB drive in the ... ...has gone to waste in the upgrade!
The drive has been completely reliable and performs exactly as expected. The only slight quibble I have is that despite the manufacturer's claim that it is one of the quietest drives around, it is slightly louder than my old one. Regardless of this however, it is still pretty quiet and the noise level is not a problem even when left on at night. All in all I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade ...

Seagate - The brand you can trust
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250 GB by
foehammer
Advantages: Large capacity, reliable, and fast!
Disadvantages: Still using the old parallel ATA connections
I purchased this harddrive from Komplett.com a while ago and at that time cost it me around £85 including delvery, which i think is a good price.
It arrived shortly after ordering, and come in a white box with the harddrive's details written on the side, upon opening i found the harddrive neatly packaged in an anti-static sealed bag, and the instructions with card for registering the FIVE year warranty, which in itself comforts you, as they wouldnt ... ...this equipment would last that long.
The installation is as easy as any other drive, once you have your old hard drive removed its just a case of connecting a four pin molex for the power supply, and then the parallel ATA lead to connect it to the motherboard, then simply slot the drive and click into position (this depends of course on your PC case). Installation is easy.. however if you havent done this before or dont know how to do it, then of ...

The BEST drive for TiVo or Sky+ upgrades
Review of Samsung SpinPoint V120CE HA250JC 250 GB by
tivoheaven
Advantages: Low noise, very cool running, low vibration, reliability
Disadvantages: not the biggest or cheapest drive you can buy
In our experience (2 years supplying this drive for TiVo upgrades) this is the quietest, coolest and most reliable drive you can buy to upgrade your TiVo or Sky+
It is a 5400rpm drive (unlike most these days which are 7200rpm) and the reduced spindle speed means it generates less heat and therefore runs a lot cooler and with less vibration than 7200rpm drives. This means that your TiVo or Sky+ will run cooler - extending the life of the drive - ... ...to the box and into your AV cabinet is much reduced too. In fact, the vibration of this drive is often so low that we have to double-check that it's powered on when configuring it as - unlike 7200rpm drives - you often can't feel it spinning when you put your hand on it!
The seek noise is also very soft and quiet too, especially when "quiet" mode is enabled with Samsung's HUTIL utility, so you don't hear the heads clattering about during quiet moments ...

Seagate 7200RPM SATA 300 Hard Drive
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 400 GB by
TheTechGuy0
Advantages: Fast with large files, quiet fast with small files, quiet, doesn't struggle with large files.
Disadvantages: May need defragging alot.
I have this drive pre installed in my computer and the first thing i realised was that it was extremely FAST; i had tested the drive on a hard drive benchmarking program called 'HDTach'. This is as on my HP'm7635', using this drive i got a burst speed of 210 MB/s and a average read rate of 70MB/s; both are extremely fast. I also realised that this drive was extremely quiet; being installed in my media cennter PC it wasn't exactly a suprise though. ... ...the context of everyday computng this hard drive is very fast, windows loads up very quickly. You can force large files down the hard drive and it wont struggle; though i still recommend that you defragmentate the drive on a regular basis for optimal speed.
To expand on my statement of what fast is, i mean to say that the drive is able to handle copying of large files such as movies very quickly. The drive is also fast in seeking files from a random ...
