...HDD's and backed up the Freecom using a USB to IDE connection cable (basically allowing me to use an internal hard drive externally).This is of course crazy - backing up the backup because you have little faith in the original. I have had this drive for just over a year now and I can say I am totally happy with it. I was a little annoyed at first to find that it only actually comes with 230GB available for storage. However I still haven't quite filled it, even with my masses of video and music. No doubt if you are a hardcore video editing person, then this probably won't provde enough storage for you. Before I went and bought an external hard drive, I was unaware that you had to plug it into the mains electric supply. Advantages: Maximizes the amount of data vs the cost of the product
Disadvantages: heat issues, cord connectivity, and small installation problems.

...but I honestly only order Maxtor for my hard drives. Now the only downside to the Maxtor 500 GB is that it is an external drive that, if not careful, can overheat and cause connectivity problems, transfer speed issues, or just annoyance from when the usb gets knocked out. That being said, if you can get past the downside of have an external I would recommend this product to anyone not using a Mac. The only reason I do not recommend this to Mac owners ... Read review
