External Hard-drive fit for rugged adventures
Review of LaCie Rugged Hard Disk Hard drive 250 GB by yassarikhan786

Advantages: Fast transfer speed, protection from knocks and drops
Disadvantages: Fairly high price

The LaCie Rugged All-Terrain External 250 hard-drive is a portable storage device which will allow you to store 250gb of multimedia files such as pictures, music and video. You will obviously also be able to hold documents and other files as well (e.g. software installations). Measuring at 9 cm wide, 14.5 cm long, 2.5 cm in height and weighing just 250 grams, making the LaCie external hard-drive very light as well as portable. The hard-drive is ...
...amount. So, looking at the LaCie external hard-drive you will be looking at a memory capacity of 230-240 GB, which in this case is not a large chunk, but is still considerable. There is no known reason why all hard-drives (including the LaCie) have less memory than stated, it may be due to the internal disk within the outer case not being able to hold the stated amount or it may be that company's want to make a profit out of its customers. Take a 250 Gig system wth you
Review of LaCie Hard Drive Design by F. A. Porsche USB 250 GB by tommyp1983

Advantages: Size, ease of use
Disadvantages: could be faster on new models if had e-SATA

To start this drive looks good and feels heavy which gives an immediate impression of sound quality. There is an instruction manual on provided disc. Its 190 x 110 x 35 mm in size, so small enough to tuck away out of sight, although it's best to give adequate ventilation whilst running as it's passively cooled (no fan - near silent). If using as a backup device you will need to install Silverlining 98 from the mentioned disc, or use your own software. ...
...Windows/Linux/Mac as it's seen as just another drive, so backups can be done without software (remember that this is not incremental though). If your computer allows boot from USB (check bios settings) you can use this device to boot from. I've successfully managed to boot Linux from it through a preinstalled Windows laptop, and it runs at a good speed. Overall transfer speed is as good as you can get with USB2 (around 400mbps). The drive needs formatting ... Read review

Great external HD, lots of space, quick and quiet.
Review of LaCie d2 U&I 250 GB by Bluewave

Advantages: Very quick with firewire, quiet (no fan), sturdy and well-built, 4-6-pin firewire lead, looks cool!
Disadvantages: No backup/partitioning software included

...research, and having previously used LaCie drives at an old design studio job and being impressed with them, I decided the D2 250GB was for me. It has 3 connectors: USB 2.0 (compatible with USB 1.1 but of course is slower), Firewire 400, and the new Firewire 800 (Apple only, but hopefully the PC will adopt the faster Firewire standard in time). I bought the largest HD I could afford and see this as a sound investment because you can never have enough ...

Lacking that Porsche Feel!
Review of LaCie Hard Drive Design by F. A. Porsche USB 200 GB by ciao-guy

Advantages: Fast, Nice Design and Good Value.
Disadvantages: Dodgy Power Supply and A Bit Too Loud.

I purchased my LaCie 200GB USB2 Hard Drive a little over 4 months ago and have given it some hefty use since I got it. I paid £109.99 for the drive which has now dropped considerably especially on some of the stores you can find here through Ciao. The drive came in a good sized box not much bigger than your average software box for say a copy of Windows XP, and was well packed inside in a plastic wrapper and some foam holding pieces. The drive was ...
...suffer the same problem if LaCie have not fixed it since I purchased my drive. All in all though I find this drive very good and would recommend it (with a little care) to anyone looking for a high volume external hard drive. I personally wish I had waited for the recent price drop but can only say that it is a good thing for you potential buyers. Thanks for reading, please leave your feedback and comments (all are welcome and learned from) Cheers. ... Read review
