Closer to perfection
Review of Hitachi TravelStar 7K200 200 GB by
andyar85
Advantages: High speed transfer, power consumption low, quiet
Disadvantages: usual HDD shock issues
The Hitachi TravelStar is the newly developed model from Hitachi Co. specifically designed for notebooks. It varies in storage capacity, but the important factors are: the rotation speed of 7200 RPM, S-ATA 1.5 GB/s interface, and what Hitachi says "a 22% performance increase".
Let's see what are the improvements:
-Having tested the model you get a random access time of 14ms which is extremely faster than it's predecessor and it's competitors;
... ...wow-it's very fast)
-It's almost noiseless, you get a 42dB/A idle noise at 3mm distance from the HDD;
-and it's power consumption was reduced(in full load it uses 3W and in idle mode only 1.1W), which means it is very economical.
-the price is in reach;
I think this motivates you in at least trying one ...

A hard to damage hard drive!
Review of Iomega eGo Portable Hard drive 250 GB by
thebigc1690
Advantages: Tough, fast and inexpensive!
Disadvantages: None to date.
...even just want.
The Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive in question has a 250Gb capacity which when used along with your original hard drive or probably even on its own is more than enough for most. Some external hard drives look and are very bulky and cumbersome, this one being designed to be portable is a lot less so. It is fairly light weight but very robust and also has the distinct advantage of looking good which a lot certainly do not.
Ok so it`s ... ...the other drives out there for functionality? Well the simple answer is yes it can and very well too, this drive is not only a good looker but also a very good performer. It connects to your PC or laptop via USB and needs no external power supply. It has a Data Transfer Rate of 480 Mbps which is up there with the best and has the following system requirements, Windows 2000/XP/Vista - Pentium II - RAM 256 MB MacOS X 10.1.5 or later - PowerPC G3 - ...

250GB Beast!
Review of Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVE 250 GB by
buckyohare
Advantages: 250GB of internal memory!! At a reasonable price, too!
Disadvantages: No major disadvantages. Not as quiet as I believed it would be.
...low, this 250GB drive from Western Digital was the highest capacity ATA internal drive I could find at a reasonable price, and so far it has not let me down!
It took a bit of effort to clone my original hard drive to the new one, which required the purchase of an external hard drive enclosure, but once the process was completed, I simply removed my old hard drive, insterted the new one and was ready to go! And now I have my old 60GB drive in the ... ...has gone to waste in the upgrade!
The drive has been completely reliable and performs exactly as expected. The only slight quibble I have is that despite the manufacturer's claim that it is one of the quietest drives around, it is slightly louder than my old one. Regardless of this however, it is still pretty quiet and the noise level is not a problem even when left on at night. All in all I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade ...

Not perfect but close
Review of Freecom Hard Drive Hard drive 250 GB by
warandpeace
Advantages: Easy way to add storage
Disadvantages: More expensive than internal drives
...eventually settled on a 250GB Freecom drive, which at the time seemed the best balance between cost and storage capacity, at just under £100 at the time of purchase, though I notice you can now get them for about £70.
Appearance: The external drive consists of a silver coloured plastic box, slightly larger than a conventional internal hard drive. As well as the drive a USB cable and power cable where also provided. To set it up is incredibly simple ... ...the computer and connect the power cable up to the mains, and the other end to the drive, stating the obvious here really, but just shows how easy it is to set up. Upon connecting the drive to my computer and turning it on, the drive was recognised by window, and within about 30 seconds was ready to use. To access the drive simply go to my computer and access the drive from their.
The drive arrived formatted in FAT 32, and as a single partition, ...

Sleek little WD Passport Hard Drive
Review of WD Passport Portable WDXMS3200 320 GB by
pk_banana
Advantages: SLeek design, small, handy, convenient
Disadvantages: None discovered yet
I have bought this about a week ago, so I haven't had a lot of opportunities to test the product out yet. But I have to admit I really like it, because it has a very sleek design and it looks very classy. I am pretty impressed that such a small device can store up to 320GB of data. The other impressive thing is that it only needs to be plugged in USB and it works instantly. It is so easy and handy to carry around. It doesn't take up a lot of space ... ...too. The good thing about storing your data onto this little hard drive is that it allows you to set a password on the hard drive or on files / folders that you do not want to share with others in case they get a glimpse. The sync is very handy too. You can set the hard to sync files / folders each time you connect the drive to your PC / laptop, so it can be used as a backup drive. ...
