Seagate keep up their standards... As usual!
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80 GB by mattyprice4004

Advantages: Fast, Quick and Very Cheap!
Disadvantages: Can't think of anything at all!

...some browsing I discovered the Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB, and found that it covers all the important points when buying a hard disk. An excellent and comprehensive 5 Year warranty was provided as standard, which certainly leads to a lot of peace of mind. Hard disks always seem to be the weakest link within Home PCs, so it is always nice to see a manufacturer putting faith into a non-enterprise level product. The large 2MB Cache also attracted ...
...day later I had the Seagate installed in the PC ready for its first boot. The PC in question is a fairly standard box - an AMD Sempron 2800+, 256MB of DDR RAM and a Gigabyte motherboard. The hard disk worked seamlessly from the moment the power button was pressed, being correctly detected by the BIOS and seen to its full capacity. Windows XP did not take long at all to install. I use an older PC as a benchmark for install times - The old P4 1.8GHz ... Read review

Cost effective?
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80 GB by Lewis_UK

Advantages: Cheap and fast spindle speed
Disadvantages: More space

So you have SATA and need a drive? This drive maybe for you, especially if you are looking at RAID in the future. These drives are now below £40 so three or four in RAID will give you the speed of a WD Raptor for less than the price of one!! The SATA gives you 150MB/S whereas normal Parallel ATA is way below that, also you will be able to feel the difference as the computer runs a lot faster as you have reduced one of the serious sub-system bottlenecks. ... Seagate Momentus 7200.1 ST910021A 100 GB Review
Review of Seagate Momentus 7200.1 ST910021A 100 GB by Jon_Farrimond

Advantages: Small, fast, large cache
Disadvantages: Expensive

...So overall it performs well. Seagate are a trusted manufacturer and have been around for a while. As far as I'm aware they have never made a bad device line, but then my HDD's of preference are normally Western digital. The device uses an 8mb cache, this isn't a special as it used to be since many other 2.5"HDDs now use this amount but its still a plus point for the device. It runs a 7200RPM, this is about the same as many normal 3.5" HDDs but is ...
...said before it is important to look at your need for this type of device, there are many other devices available that do the same job but for a far lower price. You should only buy 2.5" HDD's if you really need one and if you can't use anything else. I bought this one new from Ebuyer for just over £100 inc VAT and delivery. Its now happily running windows XP Pro SP2 and allows me to play DVD's and stored media files directly on my TV, it displays ... Read review

Maxtor 500GB EXTERNAL
Review of Maxtor Basics Desktop 500 GB by Tribunal18

Advantages: Maximizes the amount of data vs the cost of the product
Disadvantages: heat issues, cord connectivity, and small installation problems.

...but I honestly only order Maxtor for my hard drives. Now the only downside to the Maxtor 500 GB is that it is an external drive that, if not careful, can overheat and cause connectivity problems, transfer speed issues, or just annoyance from when the usb gets knocked out. That being said, if you can get past the downside of have an external I would recommend this product to anyone not using a Mac. The only reason I do not recommend this to Mac owners ... Read review
