Huge storage and cheap price
Advantages: Big storage, quite quiet Disadvantages: None after 1 month of use
...hard drives. I chose this Hitachi drive as at the time it was the best value drive I could find, and for the £58 I paid (from a company called overclockers) it offered a massive amount of storage at 1TB.
So far I've been using it for a month and no problems to report yet. It isn't the quietest drive I've used, but it is certainly by no means a noisy drive and also seems to have nice quick access times compared to my older SATA drives. Im using it ... ...and all my other documents and programs on the remainder of the drive. The boot up time for windows seems quick at the moment, however i am sure with time it will slow down as all drives do when they get full of user files and related junk!
As far as installation goes it was as easy as any other drive, with it simply slotting into the correct drive bay of the computer and then securing in place with the usual screws. There was no SATA cable supplied ...

Great 500Gb hard drive for a good price
Advantages: Plenty of storage space and very quiet Disadvantages: Isn't the biggest guide on the market nore the fastest but not the most expensive either
The Hitachi Deskstar is a great little hard drive which can be had for around £40.
I bought this hard drive for my first computer i built and am extreamly impressed with its preformance. It is exceptionaly quiet i have never really heard a peep from it over the sound of the fans and DVD drive which isn't really that loud. It seems to run at a reasonable temperature, I have felt it before after the coputer has been running for a couple of hours and ... ...The drive is a massive 500Gb which is plenty for the average user easily fitting all of your music, documents and videos on with little trouble and acres of space to spare.
The drive is very easy to install just the simple matter of plugging in two cables one from the power supply and another connected to the motherboard.
The drive seems to run very quickly, finds files with relative ease and windows vista loads in under a minute which is quite ...

The Hitachi Deskstar is really a star
Advantages: Value for money, great performance, additional drive utilities , SATA 300Gb/s Disadvantages: Little noisy
...download a special utility from Hitachi website to enable SATA 300Gb/s. Their website is at http://www.hitachigst.com
With Windows XP 64bit version, I did a speed test which is available via the Device Manager and achieved 125 Gb/s burst rate. After I changed the drive to support SATA 300Gb/s, I was able to achieve 190Gb/s burst rate. Which is still lower than the theoretical 300Gb/s. I guess the drives are not still fast enough to take advantage ... ...could have been made better I guess.
Please note that SATA II is not SATA 300Gb/s. SATA II is a new SATA technology which is still on the drawing board. Some people have confusingly used the wrong terminology to describe SATA 300Gb/s.

Closer to perfection
Advantages: High speed transfer, power consumption low, quiet Disadvantages: usual HDD shock issues
The Hitachi TravelStar is the newly developed model from Hitachi Co. specifically designed for notebooks. It varies in storage capacity, but the important factors are: the rotation speed of 7200 RPM, S-ATA 1.5 GB/s interface, and what Hitachi says "a 22% performance increase".
Let's see what are the improvements:
-Having tested the model you get a random access time of 14ms which is extremely faster than it's predecessor and it's competitors;
... ...wow-it's very fast)
-It's almost noiseless, you get a 42dB/A idle noise at 3mm distance from the HDD;
-and it's power consumption was reduced(in full load it uses 3W and in idle mode only 1.1W), which means it is very economical.
-the price is in reach;
I think this motivates you in at least trying one ...

It's not hard to drive in the west
Advantages: good space, great price and works a charm Disadvantages: not quite the full 320GB stated but hey....
...was from a company called Western Digital, who I had dealt with before and felt quite confident about.
** Brief description… (technical stuff coming up)
* 2.5” internal hard drive
* 320GB hard drive * Serial ATA
* 300 Mbps transfer rate
* 5400 rpm spindle speed
* 8 MB buffer zone
* Works with all Windows (not sure about 7)
* Shockgaurd technology protects the drive from shocks
* Whisperdrive technology gives a quiet performance ... ...service, testing the claims that Western Digital made.
They claim that it is one of the quietest internal drives on the market and it does sound quite quiet as it searches for what it’s been asked of, although you can still hear it working.
They also claim that it is optimised so as to improve battery life, well, I have put it to the test several times and can definitely say that the claims are quite true indeed as I have noticed a vast improvement ...
