good value for money 200GB SATA drive

Advantages: very good value for money, under 35p per GB
Disadvantages: need a SATA connector on motherboard and cables

this hard drive is very inexpensive for its size, its also very quiet. if your looking for an easy to install and cheap way of storing masses of data then this is the hard drive for you. the drive is very reliable and i have yet to experience a problem with it 6 months later. it can run practically non stop as well and shows no sign of performance loss. i have left it running for around 75% of the time i have had it. you do need a SATA slot on ...

A Nice hard disk "non-fullyable"

Advantages: The potency of Maxtor
Disadvantages: It speed continious being 7200 rmp

This is my first opinion on Ciao in English. I was living all my life in Spain, and I hope I have good English...but I need to practice it with IT and other stuff because now I'm in Chicago and I want to start in a good IT store. Well let's go to the hard disk I always used Maxtor's Hard disk because they are really nice. I need to use my pc for several stuff and maybe each 6 months I need to format my pc (I like to do it) and each 1 year more or ...
...other one (don't remember) and I broke in the second year... so I got the Maxtor's one and is really nice, can do all very well and no problems with it when I format it more or less times... Maybe the problem of this hard disk (and all) is the speed... I guess that the hardwares are stunk because this hard disk has the same speed as one of 20 GB... 7200 rpm (revolutions per minute). With a hard disk with more speed you will be able to read/write ...

Steer clear of this Hard Drive.

Advantages: Value.
Disadvantages: Unreliable, Noisey, maxtor's warranty is a joke.

...I decided to run the Maxtor utility suite to find out more and after a quick scan it said it had a permanent failure and to run an "in depth scan", this is what I then did. After two hours of "Deep Scanning" it then threw out an error code at me and told me to contact Maxtor. I accepted this and contacted Maxtor for a solution. Maxtor then confirmed it had started breaking down and failing as stated by the error code I had given them, but then they ...
...I will not be using Maxtor or Seagate (both the same company) I will be sticking to my old reliable Hitachi, Samsung etc drives. It seems the higher capacity hard drive you pick the more prone it is to failure too, as my friend bought a 250gb Maxtor Sata drive and it failed faster than mine, and after searching through lots of forums I have discovered I am not on my own at all. ...

A quaility Hardisk

Advantages: Cheap Reliable and FAST
Disadvantages: none really

I recieveved this 200GB hardisk in my new ADVENT computer over 2 years ago. I have learnt over time that this hardidsk has set the bench mark for all new hardisks. It has a fast read average spead which makes it excellent for storing large files, (NB: To maximize this make sure the size of the cache is minimum of 8MB.) This is due to the fact of the SATA interface being used instead of IDE. Some people have said that one downside is that the loud ...
...is usually a sign of breakage in a hard disk. Experts on the other hand say that these loud noises are becoming the norm because of technology breakthroughs by pushing Computer components to the limit.I have had no breakage signs such as read and write speeds slowing down but two other large hardisks that i got broke within months of buying them and guess what they were ultra quiet.A bit Ironic? To come to conclusion, this is a good hardisk for ...

Quick, but you pay in noise

Advantages: Fast seek times
Disadvantages: Poor RAID 0 performance, highly unreliable, noisy

...and they were replaced with Maxtor Plus 9s (which I also reviewed here) which have worked perfectly so far (touchwood). I've never learnt from Maxtor exactly what the problem was, but I assume it was poor quality bearings in the drive motor. If you can stand the noise (which will creep in eventually), they're decent enough drives with great seek times, but coupled with their poor RAID 0 performance (it only seems to happen on cheaper controllers ...
