Review of Toshiba MK 8025GAS 80 GB

Another Quality Toshiba hard disk!

Advantages: Fast, Quiet and Reliable. Also fairly cheap!
Disadvantages: None

...around, I settled on the Toshiba MK8032GAX. I chose this disk for 3 reasons: Toshiba branding (I am a Toshiba fan), a large 8MB cache, and a competitive price scheme. I paid a lot more than you would now (I obtained the disk 3 months ago) The disk didn't dissapoint - I timed a Windows XP install at 25 minutes and 39 seconds, compared to the 42 minutes and 17 seconds with the original 10GB disk. Read speeds were reported at an above average 31.8MB/Sec, probably due to the increased 5400RPM spin speed. Write speeds were equally impressive at around 30MB/Sec. It's not hard to drive in the west

Advantages: good space, great price and works a charm

Barracuda 7200.11 AVOID at all costs

Advantages: low noise
Disadvantages: no reliability what so ever, will definitely break unless you update firmware

The Seagate 7200.11 is probably is worst hard disk there is. I have only had it for 9 months and it's broken. ...because of a firmware problem. Seagate has apparently released a fix for it but who ever (except system administrators of course) updates their hard drive firmware? Don't need a big hard drive?

Advantages: Fast transfer speeds, quiet, great when it works
