Fantastic album.
Review of White Light White Heat White Trash - Social Distortion by banksy86

Advantages: It would appeal to a lot of musical genres.
Disadvantages: You just want more and more.

This is my favorite Social Distortion album. Every single track is amazing in my opinion. The tracks are hard and fast with a deep sense of meaning and thoughtfulness in the lyrics. Compared to there other releases it probably does fall short of Mommy's little monster in the quality of the songs but it makes up for it because it has more songs of a very high quality. The songs and the sound are unlike any other band and it is different to some of ...
...the album compared to there other work. But it still has the Mike Ness feel to the album with his rough vocals and catchy guitar riffs. It also has my favorite song of all time on which is Dont Drag Me Down. If you like Punk, Rock or even Rockabilly and there is something on here for you. ... Read review

Distortion of the Social kind.
Review of Social Distortion - Social Distortion by dartfordhammer

Advantages: Good solid rock album.
Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit too samey.

...Review ------------------ I first discovered Social Distortion on a video game, of all places. It was on Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX for the Playstation, and the song Don't Drag Me Down hit me like a ton of bricks. I was mesmerised by the raw power, the passion, the blast of the music. I searched on various downloading softwares such as Kazaa, Morpheus, Audiogalaxy, WinMX, etc to find their music. And what I found I loved. I went out and bought 'White ...
...taste of Mr. Mike Ness, Social D's frontman. The album as a whole is very accessible; all the songs are very much guitar-based and quite pacey, but there are lighter, poppy songs in the mix along with dark, brooding songs. Track Listing ------------------ 1. So Far Away 2. Let It Be Me 3. Story Of My Life 4. Sick Boys 5. Ring Of Fire (Johnny Cash cover) 6. Ball And Chain 7. It Coulda Been Me 8. She's A Knockout 9. A Place In My Heart ... Read review

We're Heading For... One Hit and That's it.
Review of Final Countdown, The - Europe by karoliina

Advantages: Nostalgia on the max.
Disadvantages: Embarrassment of humming it in public.

Oh lordy, Eurpoe's Final Countdown... The school discos during the innocent years before alcopops. Walking in a big circle around the dancefloor with your pals, eyeing cute guys and envying the couples snogging in the dark corners, mirror balls spinning, a bit of smoke lingering in the air... Nostalgia on the max. I've always been a sucker for nostalgia, but I think finding Europe again was a mistake. It's a summertime favourite in the Scandinavian ...
...odd became cool, anyway. Final Countdown... I remember getting horrific thoughts revolving around the possible end of the world while listening to the songs lyrics. The overall feel of it is this sweet desperation that eventhough we are heading for Venus, we still stand tall and are together. Lovely idea, but I doubt it if Venus is any better than Earth during the end. No, it's a memorable song from my childhood. The lovely 1980s. Spandex, glitter, ... Read review

Slavic Pagan Metal for dinner today
Review of Ot Serdca K Nebu - Arkona by dangaroo

Advantages: Great vocals, great hymn/ethnic chanting sound to it and superb play of wind instruments
Disadvantages: None

Ot Serdca K Nebu is the 4th album by Russian metal band Arkona. It was released by Napalm Records in January 2007. This exquisite example of Folk Metal is as good as they come, Masha on vocals is one of the best female vocalists in metal today and her moving harmonies take you back to a bygone age, the band continue with their pagan, russian folklore and slavic mythology themes and nail it to a Siberian grave with progressive yet dark riffs. Acoustic ...
...the album and while it has a mystical feel to it, much of the album has a jolly feel to it but you can also picture yourself as a rural farmer enjoying the long evenings of a Russian summer, occasionally to be attacked by neighbouring tribes with blasts of black metal. The album is largely instrumental but as previously mentioned vocalist Masha can really be counted on when needed and produces some magical stuff. I'm not a huge fan of flutes but ... Read review

Not one for your granny
Review of Strychnine.213 - Aborted by dangaroo

Advantages: One Grindcore track reminiscent of Nasum or Napalm Death, brutal vocals
Disadvantages: Nothing extraordinary happening

Strynchnine.213 is Aborted's 6th album and was released on the Century Media label at the end of June 2008, it has been touted as one of the best albums of the year in the metal genre. Aborted are a band that have intrigued me due to their nationality, I don't know a great deal of Belgian bands and despite being aware of them, I had never really given them much of a listen until now. The album is very intense and despite powering it's way through ...
...there is no wow factor and it's not particularly wild, the album has very clean production and sounds like Napalm Death on their best behaviour, attending assembly perhaps! Unless you are a fan of technical death metal (and let's be honest there aren't many), it would be hard to see this album breaking in to your top 10 of the year. Some tracks do have a nice touch, like the sneakiest amount of industrial creeping in to the track The Chyme Congeries ... Read review
