There are now so many white wines on the market, how do you know what is going to be drinkable and what is paint stripper? Well this is a reliable, easy drinking wine that is easy to find in most outlets and won't let you down in your hour of need!

The cork is plastic which I do prefer as you tend not to get so many floating bits in the wine with a real cork and there is always a possibility of taint.
The wine itself is a blend of the Chardonnay and Semillion grapes. The semillion seems to mellow out the sometimes overpowering Chardonnay flavour and makes this wine ... ...has a citrusy fruity character and has a subtle oak flavour which is not overpowering as some Australain wines can be. To be honest I can never smell the hollyhocks etc in wine but this one smells fresh and fruity which is the most I can expect to get!
The bottle is a 75cl size and contains 12.5% alcohol so is fairly powerful and can be deceptive as it is very easy drinking.

This is a South East Australian wine by the winemakers Thomas Hardy and sons and is part of their most popular series of wines 'Stamp of Australia'.
This particular wine includes a picture of an original australian postage stamp which dates back to 1937 and has a cute Koala bear on it. Apart from this it is a very ordinary looking green bottle with HARDYS imprinted into the collar and a small label on the back.

If you like your wine with food it goes well with the usual white meats and seafood or even mild cheese but is not too overpowering to drink on its own.
I find that this is a good wine to bring to parties etc as it can be enjoyed by everyone, will not get withering looks from the wine expert and will not leave you too much out of pocket. Most supermarkets and off licensces stock it at around 4.29GBP per bottle but you may find it on offer.
All in all this wine is a good value standby wine, maybe not for a special occasion but ideal for a quiet Saturday night watching a video and catching up with friends, a good buy.
Advantages: It's Chardonnay - which many people like Disadvantages: Poor value for money
...when we come to the Hardys Stamp.) Next on the list came Tesco Own Able Australian Chardonnay. This was a very new wine and surprisingly fresh tasting. Retailing at around £4 a bottle, again, it relatively good value.
Hardys Stamp came last (out of four). As I mentioned above, many Australian wines are oaked (does not have to be mentioned on the label). The oak adds a certain fullness to the palatte but can be used to try and give a poor wine a ... ...been done with Hardys Stamp Semillon Chardonnay. In fact, I think the oak is overpowering.
~ HARDYS STAMP CHARD-SEM TASTING NOTES ~
The Hardys Stamp has a very poor, what is called in the wine trade, mouthfeel. I would describe it as tasting pasty with a sourness that shouldn't be there. What tastes in the Jacobs Creek like a mixture of fresh grass (typical of Semillon) and caramel (typical of Chardonnay), in the Hardys Stamp is verring towards ...

Advantages: Should be excellent with fish Disadvantages: Not great on its own
I did not get a good look at the label on this Hardy's Chardonnay, owing to the difficulty and probable social death that might have followed on my trying to prise the bottle from the barman, so detail-o-philes should stop reading here.
But I thought I'd share my Hardy's Chardonnay Semillion experience anyway.
It happened on a night of uncharacteristically dramatic English stormy weather, in a branch of a well-known faux-Irish chain of wine bars ... ...for a medium glass did not detract from the gothic thrill of the weather outside, coupled with the decadence of drinking wine in a place that appeared to have only recently been converted from a cathedral to a drinking den.
I'm sober now and here are my sober conclusions: Chardonnay tends to a resinous taste and texture, and Hardy's Stamp seems more resinous than most. I would counsel the winery against serving it as a stand-alone wine. It is made ...
