This is a review of a Harley Davidson Dyna Wide glide - Bought second hand at a cost of £7000
Good second hand Harleys at a reasonable price are hard to comeby after many phone calls and visits to Harley dealerships i finally found this one in Chorley Lancs in of all places a Yamaha dealer - It had been well looked after by the previous owner and was in mint condition
I have now sold the bike and got what a paid for it a year earlier . Harley Davidsons hold their value extremely well and are very sought after

HOG - Harley Owners Group the HOG is a dealership sponsored club for Harley owners and they meet up for regular rideouts and have organised events if your into that sort of thing
I found a few of the members a bit eliteist and have the attitude that Harleys are the only bike worth buying

Looks - are probably the main reason anyone buys a Harley Davidson , that and the Name
The paint finish and general all round build quality is superb with lashings of chrome on the engine casings and everywhere else .Paint finish is to a very high gloss finish and faultless
the wide front end looks good (see my profile picture ) and is enhanced by the skinny 21" front wheel - The back wheel doesnt look so good and could do with a wider profile back wheel/ tyre as fitted to the new 1450 twin cam models
this would be for cosmetic reasons only as the wheel / tyre does the job its intended to quite adequatley

Handling - Handling is fine for such a heavy bike, in dry weather at speeds below 75 mph ( above this the machine feels a bit vague and wallows during cornering )which is when most Harleys are used these days
In the wet however its a different story the Skinny front tyre feels light and skittish and gives no confidence whatsoever

Lights/ switches - look good as its headlight is a small custom style but not really up to the job if any serious night riding is to be undertaken the only annoying thing i found was the indicator signal switches - there is one on each handlebar which took a bit of getting used to (most modern bikes have one switch on the left hand side )

Brakes - absolutely atrocious how these meet any safety standards is beyond belief - no wonder this is the first item many Harley owners change (upgrade to Harrison 6 pots or similar )
The brakes are a real pull and prey you come to a standstill job

Comfort - the standard seat was comfy for trips up to a hundred miles - after that the rear of the drivers seat started to rub the small of my back
Forward controls - look really good and are ok up to speeds of 65 mph above that the wind starts to blow your feet off the pegs - I remedied this by fitting floorboards

Touring - this is a great bike to tour on provided you dont want to get there in a hurry . mine was fitted with an aftermarket sissy bar (backrest ) which is ideal to lash your tent to for camping weekends ,and throw over leather panniers for all your bits and bobs

Sound - This engine like all Harley motors sounds awesome once the standard pipes have been junked and screaming eagle exhaust has been fitted ( Many harley bits can be sourced at a reasonable price from e bay these days )

This is a real posers bike and attracts crowds whenever you park up or ride through towns this is fun at first but gets a bit annoying when you get surrounded by old grimmits wantin to ask you questions and jumping on the bike to have their photo taken every time you pull up

Fuel Consumption - sorry Cant be bothered working it out it and never will just fill it up when it needs it - i got about 100 miles to a tank full
