When I first saw these speakers in the market, i liked them. The transparent tube and satellite speakers look just great. But I dare not even think of buying them - £140 is a bit too much for me to spend on speakers.
I had borrowed the creative 6.1 6700 from a friend who would be away for a month and was using only 2 front speakers as I did not have a 6.1 sound card. I liked them and was planning to buy a new set for myself with the external soundcard - another £70. A total of £120. Again expensive.
The other option I was comtemplating to buy was the JBL creature II - 2.1 and excellent sound. No external sound card needed. nothing. £60 - a good value for money and not too hard on the pocket. I had decided on them.
I was at my friends place in london and he had recently purchased the soundsticks II. He asked me if I liked them. I told him they were beautiful but expensive. He would have been better off buying something cheaper - like the creative 6.1 6700 speakers - one third the price - he had a 6.1 external soundcard already. If he really wanted a new set.
In his reply, he asked me if I had heard them play? I had not!
He chuckled and switched ON his laptop. I could not believe my ears. These were even better than the JBL creature II I was planning to buy and he already had. I could not believe these small speakers could deliver such good sound quality. I was once again confused which speakers to buy. I had been looking for good speakers for a month now. They are awesome but £140 is a bit too much for me to spend. I decided to wait a few more days and look for cheaper alternatives.
And then, it became obvious that I was buying these - my brother too heard them play a last week and decided on them. I tried to reason with him that they were too expensive. He shot back that they were better than the 6.1 and the creature II and value for money for the quality they delivered, in fact, they were lowly priced for the quality they delvered. It was infact a steal.
Another friend too had the same opinion. And we decided that we buy these.
The result - orders were placed for two sets - one for us and one for my good friend. Purchased them through PCW @ £109.06 each with free delivery.
They have those light touch volume controls on the right speaker just like the creature II and a bass control knob on the rear of the bass tube. The speakers can be instantly muted by touching the two volume control buttons together on the right speaker.
Also Harman Kardon has ensured that the speakers are plugged in the correct sockets by choosing two different kind of sockets for the two satellite speakers. An installation manual was included but everything is so easy to assemble and install, I found it redundant. No user manual is included but again is not required.
Also I had to mention this - the sattellite speakers have an air vent at the bottom providing an enhanced over all bass and listening experience.

It just doesn't end here. Two more friends are placing their orders as I am writing this review. Unfortunately, PCW has temporarily run out of stock but amazon Uk is also selling at the same price and thats where they are placing their orders.
Four sets in the same halls of residence in the same corridor. We are gonna party everyday!
Good luck to those of you who are planning to buy new speakers. I suggest you steer clear of them if you think they are expensive and dont want to burn a hole in your pocket - for if you once hear them you would not be able to resist buying them.
For those of you looking for a steal and have money to blow - you don't want to look at any other contraption made by man. Just walk into you local Dixons or PCW store and hear them play.
Happy Shopping
Questions and suggestions welcome.
------------ update ------------
I too was worried about dirt and other subsatances entering the tube but everything seems fine so far. Have placed the bass tube under the desk on the carpet floor - was worried about it too , though all looks fine. Still thinking of getting a wooden plank to place under the bass tube - should enhance the quality further. What you say? Or it would be a bad idea? Let me know.
Two more friends have purchased this set of speakers. So a total of 7 sets. Hall mates and complete strangers walk in to check the speakers out almost everyday. Have become an object of constant and continued appreciation.
Could be annoying when a neighbour knocks at night and asks to cut the noise out. Be responsible enough to use in the day time only and with the consent of the neighbours.
Now they really look like they were a steal. hats off to my brother.
Advantages: Rich sound, super clarity, deep base, look great, robust, high quality Disadvantages: Simply none!
My Harmon Kardon Soundsticks are plugged into the back of a Mac and have certainly livened things up. I haven't needed to upgrade soundcards or do anything technical whatsoever in my pursuit of fantastically rich sound quality. Firstly, these sound better than anything else on the market within the price bracket. The sound is rich and deep with ample adjustment for either volume or base. The two sticks and base unit come with an instruction manual, ... ...can throw the manual in the recycling bin. The speaker set simply plugs into the jack socket of your PC/Mac/laptop and have their own power supply which connects to the base unit. Seperate cabling attaches the sticks to the central base unit. Once plugged in you get a cool blue underlit main unit which looks really stylish. The sticks themselves are mounted on adjustable rubber hoops which keep them firmly planted to your desk with adjustment to ...

Advantages: Great sound and look superb Disadvantages: I wish i could show them off more!
...These speakers look the business! Harman Kardon share designs with Apple computers and this is shown. The satellite speakers are set in a clear casing which shows off the wiring superbly. The satellites are made up of 4 dome tweeters and have a heavy blue rubber stand. The sub is the centre piece. I am dissapointed that i do not have room for this on my desk as it looks so good! Almost like a jelly fish the sub is set in a clear casing with a blue ... ...appearance. They are the future! The satellites and sub are relatively small in comparison to other speakers of the same size and quality. My brother has a 2.1 creative setup that cost around the same amount and the sub is twice the size of this however the performance is no better.
--Cons---
I'd be happier if the bass adjust knob was placed at the front of the sub rather than the back, so i can hear the difference in tone whilst i am adjusting. ...

Advantages: Fantastic sound quality Disadvantages: Short lead from sub to pc
...mind, the advisor suggested the Harman / Kardon SoundSticks 2 stating that they were brilliant. So I had a look, opened up the box to take a look and was surprised at what i found. The speakers are tiny! About 30cm tall with four small tweeter sized cones inside. This immediately put me off because I KNEW I wanted some loud speakers but the design is fantastic, they look really stylish and sleek (just like me :P ) The price was right at £139 and ... ...them before and thought I should definately buy them. So..... I did.
When i got home I unpacked the box and just placed everything on my desk to have a look. The sub looks like what I can best describe as a jellyfish, with a clear plastic shell. I like fish so I thought, best try them out. I put the sub under my desk and the two satellite speakers at ear level on a shelf either side of my desk, turned on my pc and played some music. All I can say ...

Advantages: LOUD maximum volume, cool looks Disadvantages: Bulky subwoofer
One of the coolest speakers i saw come out were the Kardon Soundsticks II multimedia speaker system. I didnt actually see them online or anything like that, the speakers are actually somewhat endorsed by apple, as I first saw them hooked up to almost all of the ipod's and apple mac's on display. The first thing i noticed was their unusual look - as obviously they are transparent. For me, that went on the plus side of things, as I can'r resist a funky ... ...can't quite describe but the unit is nicely accompanied with silver screws wires and other general add ons, so that nothing is too imposing. The only negative thing that I can think of is the size of the whole system, particurlaly the subwoofer. Bearing in mind that these are pc speakers, people do not always have the space for this size of speaker, no matter how good the sound is; and although the second amazing thing I noticed was the clear crisp ...

Advantages: Beautiful, cool, perfectly formed speakers Disadvantages: moths fly into the subwoofer and die
I saw these, slightly phallic speakers in a shop a LONG time ago, and loved them to pieces immediately. But there was no way I could spend that much (nearly £200) at the time, on speakers for my PC.
Anway, I invested in a high quality soundcard some time ago, as I was doing a lot of work with music. Since then, I'm doing less "professional" music stuff, and decided I wanted to get those awesome speakers I saw a few years back.
After some searching, ... ...the beatiful lines of the speaker satellites, and the amazing curves of the subwoofer. I COULDN'T RESIST! I bought them, and I haven't regretted it since.
The box they come in is so exciting to look at, I think I must have sat staring at it for about 10 mins before I tore into it to retrieve my new equipment. It was so exciting. They were well packed in shaped card - everything easy to put up and assemble.
Slightly lacking on the instructions front, ...
