OK, wanna get dirty with me? then lets get down to it right away!! I had a slow draining kitchen sink which stank to high heaven and needed sorting -fast! I'd seen an advert on the TV for HARPIC POWER JET which claims to blast away any blockage in a few seconds, so thought I'd give it a go.
Off I popped down to my local Asda where I purchased said product for £4.62, sounds a lot I know but hey it's cheaper than a plumber and a lot less hassle than a plunger!
PACKAGING comes in a 400 ml can with bright red top, you can't miss it and is clearly labelled with instructions for usage on back of can.
HOW IT WORKS Dispenser contains a liquid when once activated releases a powerful jet of high pressure liquid that gets rid of any blockage.
HOW TO USE Firstly, open can, (I won't go into this, tells you how on dispenser) , it is then advised to fill sink/basin with water to a depth of approx 3cm, this makes sure there is no air in the pipes and ensures maximum effectiveness.
Then make sure you cover overflow hole with a damp cloth or sponge, this prevents you getting a blast of whatever comes out!! Turn the can upside down and position dispenser over plughole, then activate by pressing down vertically and hold firmly for a few seconds.
POINTS TO NOTE Not for use in toilets If you have larger shower plugholes where the dispenser does not cover the entire opening then again use a damp cloth around dispenser to seal opening. Do not direct at your face
PLUS POINTS Safe and easy to use Removes blockages and build up caused by soapscum, food and grease etc Works through standing water Can use in kitchen/bathroom sinks and showers Does not damage pipes 100% ozone friendly Easy to follow instructions on dispenser New on market
MINUS POINTS Once dispensed thats it, so quite expensive Not widely available in all supermarkets
Harpic do recommend that you use their Sink and Plughole Thick Gel Unblocker to help prevent any future build up.
I know it's a tad expensive for 1 usage but thoroughly worth it for minimum effort with maximum results! and I'm happy to report that my kitchen sink is flowing how it should be with no nasty smells :)
you could also use 3 tablespoons of baking powder, then 1/4 bottlel of vinager on top, this will foam up,leave for 10 minutes run hot water down sink, cost around 50p and does the job just as good
