Well another day and another review of a market research company, todays target is harrispollonline. They are an American based company with over 40 years in the field, their online branch has members from a multitude of countries including the UK, USA, France, Germany and Portugal. The site looks good and the blurb makes them sound good but how good are they really?
To sign up is initially simple process, you follow the link on their homepage to the sign up page, give them your name, age and email address and post code and then as long as you are over 18 they will send you an email. This email will contain a link to your first survey, its not a short survey but it does cover pretty much ever subject area which can conceivably be used to catagorise you for future surveys.
Since I joined in late 2004 I have earned just under 3000 points, from around 70 surveys with rewards ranging from 300 points to 10 points. As with all survey companies the number of points differs depending on the length of the survey, and if you get passed the prescreener or not.
The emails will be recieved from HarrisPoll@hpolsurveys.com, each one will have the link to your survey in it, but you will only be told that there are points avaliable and not the number of points avaliable. Each survey is fairly easy to complete most of mulitple choice questions and there is always a little bar telling you how much is left to complete. After completing each survey you are asked if you wish to be entered in to the $10,000 sweepstakes, but it is worth noting that the last UK based winner of this was over 3 years ago, but you lose nothing by clicking the yes option.
Now to the important bit about the surveys, the rewards. Well it is at this point you should really be thinking that this isnt worth the effort the rewards are stunnigly bad, and that is even after they have changed many of them in the last month! Your choices are shown in folios at 1000point, 1600 points, 2500 points and 3000 points. The best rewards are the gift vouchers and for these you are best waiting until you have 3000points as this becomes $50 vouchers for either marriot hotels, globogift, or as donations to amnesty international or a cancer charity (International Union Against Cancer) which I am unfamiliar with. The best of those however is the globogift option as it is redeemable in quite a few UK stores.
When redeeming the points it is a simple procedure, click on the folio you want to redeem from, click the item then fill in your address for it to be posted, they claim that items will be recieved with it 4 - 6 weeks. This is something I will update on as earlier this month I redeemed 1000 points for a multipurpose sunvisor for my car (one of the items now unavaliable).
***The item I ordered from them arrived today, around 2 weeks after I ordered it, so the service here is pretty good. It is as described a multipurpose sunvisor organiser, but not specified is that it also has a 10 cd holder on one side of it. It is made by Case Logic who make fairly good quality items for this type of storage so is actually quite a nice item (if you have use for it) although it can be bought in the UK for less than £10 (but usually less from most supermarkets). It was packaged simply in a large jiffy bag which for this is substatial enough.***
Overall the surveys are fairly infrequent only a couple a month not too long in the majority of cases but offer low rates of renumaration via the points system and then the rewards for saving your points are not great (in fact they are awful). If harris poll revamped all of their reward options and rates, it could only improve but after the recent change I suspect they simply buy in bulk the items and change them after they run out meaning things like the Mahogany Card holder will remain on the site for quite some time yet! Which in turn means this is not a site to bother with, they look good but really arent all that good.
**2009 UPDATE**
Well it seems that Harris have finally listened to their panellists, and the entire redemption 'catalogue' has now changed, after around 12 months of having a paypal 6.50 euro option under 1000 points they have completely done away with the gift selection. This means that now points can be converted in to paypal money.
Unfortunately the minimum payout is now 2500 which is equivalent to £25. On reaching the magic 2500 you can request the payout to your registered paypal account and expect the cash to arrive around a week later, thankfully for us they have worked out how to send the cash so that you don't end up paying paypal any fees on recieving the earnings.
However it seems as a consequence the formerly frequent surveys worth 100 points also seem to be a thing of the past most surveys recently having paid me 30 - 75 points, and only one or two of them a week compared to the one or two daily I seemed to be getting last year.
None the less this alteration in redemptions has brough this particular panel up in my estimation.
Advantages: Good incentive System, relatively short surveys, 2500 Hi-Points = £25, Pay cash via PayPal Disadvantages: Few Surveys, Minimum payout gets you prize draw entries, High Payout
I joined HarrisPollOnline also known as 'HarrisPoll Interactive' or 'Harris Interactive' while looking for paid surveys online that I was trying out.. The site is free to join and open to members 13 and over in U.S and Canada & 14 and over in other countries. After verifying my email address, filled out the profiling surveys and you get 100 points bonus for completing these. You then receive survey notifications via email that detail how long the ... ...are shorter than that and pretty straight forward. The incentive system is pretty good. It is in the form of 'HI-Points' which are equivalent to cash. 1 HI-Point= £0.16 approximately which is pretty good in my opinion compared with other sites I've tried; The last invitation I received was for 20 minutes - 10 HI-Points (£1.60)... though the downside is that they do not send many surveys, about one or two a month at the most. Each completed survey ...

~~UPDATED OCTOBER 2005~~
It's another survey site review, and this time it's the turn of Harris PollOnline. Harris Polls have been around for over 40 years, but like so many market research companies, they've branched out into online survey work by offering membership to an online panel. To join up you need to go to www.harrispollonline.com. Membership is offered to participants from all over the world in an impressive variety of different languages ... ...that no one under 18 is allowed to join.
~ REGISTRATION~
The registration process is rather slow and long-winded. You start at www.harrispollonline.com by clicking on your country of origin, and then fill in a short online form detailing name, age, and email address. You then receive an email thanking you for expressing an interest in joining Harris PollOnline, and then you sit back and wait. Within a week to 10 days you *should* receive your first ...

Well, what can one say? How can I start to talk an organisatiom such as this, without being bias/ Well, first off they are a company that is only based online at www.harrispollonline.com Secondly, they are a company who are used by other companies in terms of resarch by gaining information on different items. Such as? Well, how long is a piece of string? On registering with them, you tell them about your interests. Therefore, they will only e-mqil ... ...of interest to you. Do I need to take part in every survey? No, but the less you do take then the less points you receive. But refuse to take part in a number of consecutive surveys, then no doubt you are going to be asked to leave! What can I be asked to survey? As already noted, this can depend on what you put down in the firat place. If you are a non-driver, then you can't be asked about petrol. Similarly, a vegetarian ain't gonna be asked about ...

Advantages: I got regular surveys, no spam, rewarded even when not quailfying for surveys Disadvantages: Prizes are not the best available.
...10- 30 mins per survey) Harrispollonline.com offers what seems to be a bright and shiny service. I have been using this website for just over two months now and already have enough points for the lower tier prizes. The website itself is very easy to navigate and the points (called Hipoints) system is well explained and the prize lists are easily accessable. I have recieved no spam mail as a result of this website, only invitations to surveys and ... ...sometimes quite long but I have never had an occasion where i have not been awarded a few points. Unlike many other survey websites when not eligable for a survey after answering screening questions you will still gain a few 10 or so points. The only bad point about this service is the prizes, although gaining points has been quick enough for my level of internet usage the prizes are a little dissapointing. At least theres a wide variety of choice. ...
