Harrods is the worlds premier Department Store. If you are rich and need to do your shopping and live in england then I can guarantee that you will shop at Harrods.
Harrods started off as a family business in 1849 as a simple food store (It still incorporates this today)but soon became a much bigger store and branched out into a department store in 1902 with 80 departments and over 2000 staff. It grew even more and became the biggest and best departmental store in the world. In 1959 however it became subject to a takeover by scottish group House Of Fraser which was then inturn bought out by Mohamed Alfayed in 1986. In 1994 Alfayed floated The 54 House of Fraser Stores and Kept Harrods once again as a family run business.
Harrods has always been known well for it's sales and its motto that it can supply anything that is demanded. It is so big and profitable and has been known to take in excess of £15 million in one single working day.
Harrods sells everything, Anything you need and can't find it anywhere? then go to Harrods, but be prepared to pay for it. Harods is not cheap and is often known for its extremely expensive pricing which is why i said it is more of a status thing to shop here and not in Marks and Spencer's or the like.
Harrods still incorporates it's famous food hall which sells glorious and elegent and expensive !! food from all over the world. But in itself Harrods is a london landmark and is often seen on many souvenir's from a visit to Harrods.
Because of it's immense popularity Harrods gets very busy and is a very secure place to be. If you are dressed inapropriately then you may be refused entry, that is how particular Mohamed AL Fayed is. You cannot use mobile telephones while in the store as there is a radio transmission block to prevent harrods from remote bomb detonation.
Harrods is layed out very well and you can gain access from a lot of major points around the surrounding roads but don't drive, there is no or little parking space and it is very expensive.
If you are visiting london and want an experience then visit Harrods by all means but if you are simply requiring some shopping and want to be as economic as you can then i suggest you try somewhere else.
Advantages: Nice products, good quality. Disadvantages: A little Pricey.
...first found out about the Harrods website when a received a Christmas teddy from my best friends in 2003 and commented on the fact that I didn't know they had been to London. The fact was they hadn't and had ordered the bear online. After that point I have used Harrods online several times, mainly for special gifts and sale items.
--*-- The Site --*--
The Harrods web-site is quite smart looking using a colour scheme or primarily white, dark green ... ...the each page is the Harrods logo in dark green with the sign-in and search boxes to the right and a home button to the left. Below this is a black bar with links to the various departments within the site. Each department then has sub-departments so if you are browsing or looking for something specific it is easy to use. This as I mentioned is on every page and makes navigation much easier.
Down the left hand side of the home page is set of links ...

Advantages: None I can think of unless you like tacky stuff Disadvantages: Expensive, too big to walk around, hot and smelly
Harrods – it’s a tourist attraction in disguise! Why on earth anyone would want to shop there is beyond me, as apart from the Harrods’s biscuits etc… they sell stuff you can buy elsewhere at a cheaper price! Let’s have a closer look at this expensively tacky ‘store’…
~LOCATION~
Harrods I located in Knightsbridge, which is near the centre of London. The easiest way to reach it is by tube, and you should ... ...one for electricals etc… Harrods is the place to go if you want top quality good, at a high price – only really suitable for your average film star.
~PRICE (!!!)~
This is the part of Harrods hates – but loves, without its high prices, Harrods would not maintain it’s ‘exclusivity’. However high these prices may be, it is really a gimmick – the reverse of any normal store. The people that regularly shop there ...

Advantages: Everythjing you could ever want Disadvantages: Expensive
I have shopped at Harrods on a few ocassions but never on a regular basis. As a man of average means I cannot afford their prices. It is very much a status thing to shop at this store, great for those with money to burn and fine for the tourist to say they've been there. For the average person however you can almost certainly find the same or equivelent item a lot cheaper elsewhere.
On the side of layout and design it is excellent and well designed ... ...a pleasurable shopping experience. You can savour the thought of being in this sumptious store brushing shoulders with the rich and famous.
Overall if you have the money and are looking for a unique shopping experience then give it a try. As for me I'll have to stick with Sainsbury's and my other local stores. ...

Advantages: architecture, history, location Disadvantages: May be prices
Let?s continue to discover Paris by doing a bit of shopping at ?Le Bon Marché?.
This store is one of my favourite in Paris even though I rarely shop in here as the prices are quite expansive but it?s still a great place to wander.
Archetype of the Parisian luxury shop ? Le Bon Marché? is also the oldest and the most snobbish of them. Settled on the 24 rue de Sèvres the best way to reach it is to use the subway line 10 and 12 Station Sèvres-Babylone.
This Store could certainly be compared to the famous English store settled in Knightsbridge, Harrods. It?s similarly composed of different storedepartments separated on different floors: Sports, Men wear, women wear, children and toys, house, jewellery and perfume.
A second building is totally dedicated to food containing a huge food all and grocery but also some restaurants. This ...
Advantages: Its nice to have baby clothes which are a little unusual Disadvantages: Very expensive
from a high street shop. However, i believe you are getting a higher quality item but you are also paying mainly for the name.
A typical example of costing is as follows:
1) A babygro - £30
2) A pair of jeans - £45
3) A jumper with "B" on the chest - £50
4) A kilt - £50
5) A long sleeved top with Nova detail - £25
A tip to save you a lot of money of all top name baby clothes is to use Ebay (www.ebay.co.uk). I have found many an item either new or gently worn for a fraction of the price of brand new from a retailer! But please, leave some for me ;o)
Lastly, where can you buy Burberry baby clothes? Well, so far I've found them in the following:
The Burberry stores in London (Knightsbridge, Bond Street and Regent Street)
Childrens designer boutiques in big towns / cities.
Large departmentstores such as Selfridges ...

Advantages: you can everything here!!! Disadvantages: nothing I can think off
departments occupy two and a half floors so I am sure everyone can find something. The men clothing occupies only one floor and although there are many designers and companies to choose from, there is not that much variety as with women clothing (sorry boys!!!!)
The shop is also not so crowded even when the rest of the shops in Oxford Street are. The shop assistants are usually helpful and you don’t have to queue up for ages to get to the changing rooms which is usually the case with High Street stores.
The food department is definitely worth visiting and I think only Harrods can compete with it. You can find all sorts of interesting things here from all over the world. I love their organic tea from Japanese organic farm and their yoghurts (cherry and chocolate are yummy!!!).
There are also a lot of restaurants in the shop, including ...
