game, Quidditch is a strange sport, and initially seems quite complicated. However, in the new gameQuidditch World Cup, it's both fun to play and a good choice for all the family. It's also more straightforward than you'd think. Much thought has clearly gone into providing a gentle learning curve, and picking up the basics of the game is supremely easy. It's helped, of course, by having familiar faces from the Harry Potter world all along the way, guiding you through what you need to know. The ultimate aim is to walk away with the prize of the game's title, but first there's the small matter of the Hogwart's tournament to win. You align yourself with one of the four houses, and seek to win that before you can move on to the international stages. And that promptly gets you into the heart of the action. The gameplay, as you'd expect, is frantic and exciting, and while it's not going to keep the older gamer occupied for too long, its target audience is clearly going to be in its element. To keep things going that bit longer, you can earn Quidditch cards as you progress. These are rewards given to you along the way, and can unlock fresh elements of the game. Hello fellow Ciao reviewers in the world! I’m back after a long spell away and am here to give you a review on a game called:
Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup
Now I’m sure that anyone who’s interested in Harry Potter would like this but don’t be so sure. Every Harry Potter game that has come out, I have either on playstation 2 or playstation. I love Quidditch, seeing it in the films and reading about the matches in the books and I was really excited to play the game! So I went out and bought for PS2 although I’m sure it comes for every other console out there!
***WHAT IS QUIDDITCH?***
Quidditch is the most popular sport played in the wizarding world!
Quidditch has seven players…..
3 Chasers 2 Beaters 1 Keeper 1 Seeker
and altogether there are 4 balls to play with:
1 Quaffle 2 Bludgers 1 Golden Snitch
Here’s a breakdown of what each team member does.
CHASERS: The chasers have the job of looking after the Quaffle. The Quaffle is a bright red ball, about the size of a football. The Chasers pass the Quaffle to each other and try to score a goal worth ten points in one of three hoops which are about 50 feet of the ground.
BEATERS: Beaters have to take care of the Bludgers. Bludgers are small brown balls with a mind of their own. Bludgers fly around the stadium trying to knock anyone they come into contact with of their broomsticks. The 2 Beaters are given clubs which look like rounders bats and their job is to knock the Bludgers away from their team and towards the opposing team.
KEEPER: The keeper has to defend the hoops from goals being scored
SEEKER: The seeker has the most important job. The seeker is in charge of the golden snitch. The Golden Snitch is a tiny walnut sized ball. It’s very fast and hard to see. The seeker’s job is to catch it before the other team’s seeker does. A game of quidditch is only finished when the seeker has caught the snitch as it earns their team an extra 150 points, so they always win.
THE PITCH: Since the fourteenth century, the Quidditch pitch has remained a regulation oval 500 feet long by 180 feet wide shape. A central central circle is where the players gather at the start of the game waiting for the balls to be released by the referee. The ground is usually grass unless in a different country where is can be sand, water and even ice.
***WHAT’S INVOLVED IN THE GAME?***
Quite simply…you get to play Quidditch! There are stages that you go through and new options that open up as you progress through the game.
The first step in this game is going to a virtual hogwarts training ground to learn the basics of Quidditch, but before you do that, you have to pick which house team you want to be. You be either:
Once you have picked your team then you must learn how to play quidditch. You have to learn how to pass, shoot, tackle, catch the snitch, defend your team from bludgers, learn special moves that are unique to each team and learn how to do combo moves. Once you’ve done that then it’s on with your team to win them the Quidditch Cup. The team that wins the cup gets tickets to see the Quidditch World Cup!
***WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?***
You go on to the Quidditch World Cup where you play teams from all around the world for a shot at the World Cup. You can choose to be:
England The Nordic Team France Germany Spain Japan Australia Bulgaria
Whatever team you choose to be, you have to play every team. All teams have a unique team move and a stadium designed for them. You’ll have to play matches at home and away in another country. If you lose a game, then you can have a re-match. As for the Hogwarts house matches, you can either play them in a winter or summer stadium depending on what you feel like!
You can take every team on the list and win the World Cup with them. Every team has a different style of playing, different tactics.
If your not ready to play at Hogwarts or in the World Cup, you can always play an exhibition game instead, to sharpen your skills.
***ARE THERE ANY QUIDDITCH CARDS TO WIN IN THIS GAME?***
There certainly are! Quidditch cards are a major theme in any Harry Potter game. They are the key to unlocking practically everything in this game. There are dozens and dozens of challenges to do in Hogwarts and the World Cup to win Quidditch Cards and the more cards you get, the more the game opens up! You can unlock stadiums, special moves for a team and broomsticks!
***DO I GET TO PICK WHAT BROOM I PLAY ON***
That all depends on how many Quidditch Cards you have. Quidditch cards are the key to unlocking almost everything in this game including broomsticks and hidden stadiums. Broomsticks are about skill in this game. Every broom has a skill level attached to it.
Comet 260 The Comet Trading Company’s finest racing broom. Although starting to show its age, the Comet 260 is an extremely versatile model and a great first broom for the club Quidditch player.
Nimbus 2000 One of the Nimbus Racing Broom company’s most successful models. A highly reliable broom with a great turn-of-speed and exceptional handling. This is not a broom for beginners!
Nimbus 2001 The top of the Nimbus Racing Broom Company’s range. Capable of previously unseen speed and control, the Nimbus 2001 is a world-class broom. Only experienced players need apply!
Firebolt A state-of-the-art racing broom. Each component has been honed to aerodynamic perfectio, giving the Firebolt unsurpassable balance, pinpoint precision and an awesome turn-of-speed
So long as you have acquired the quiddich cards to unlock these brooms then you can use them. The better the broom however, the more challenging and difficult the games you play. Beginners should stick to the Comet 260!
***LITTLE EXTRAS***
After every game, you’ll see your score compared with the other teams and how you rank in the tournament. You can save after every game and can even go back to Hogwarts to try to win some more Quiddich cards if you think you’ve improved. Viktor Krum is even in this game for the Bulgarian Team! There are also commentators who tell you what is going on throughout the game! A nice little extra!
***WHAT DO I THINK?***
I thought this was a good game. Great for all the Quidditch fans out there. However, the game can be repetitve at times and it doesn’t take long before your the one scoring all the goals in the match whilst the other team doesn’t get a look in at all. In that respect it gets boring, especially if you choose the Comet 260 as your difficulty level. If you want a more challenging game then go for a higher broomstick skill level. If you are desperate to get to the end then I suggest going for the easiest level. You’ll fly through the matches.
The graphics for the playstation 2 game are excellent once again and the game comes with a fantastic trailer by E4. This can be viewed on the internet. Every stadium for all the countries has been fantastically designed and you can’t help but go "wow!" when you look at them. There are tons of extras in this game, but if you get stuck and can’t figure out what to do to win that elusive quidditch card, it becomes irritating and boring again. The commentators are a nice idea, but what they say is said over and over again!
Small children will like this, but I can’t imagine that it will be too long before their concentration goes and they get bored of it. I was the same and I still like to play it on some occasions but not all the time.

A SNITCH IN TIME Review ofHarry Potter: Quidditch World Cup (PS2)by

Advantages: Feels like playing Quidditch, looks nice Disadvantages: Gets repetitive, almost impossible to collect all the cards
...Being a bit of a Harry Potter nerd, I'd been meaning to buy this game for a while, mainly as I like 'extreme' sports games, and if riding a broomstick isn't extreme, then I don't know what is.
WHAT SORT OF GAME IS IT?
If you don't know anything else about Harry Potter, then you should know he plays Quidditch, a basketball like game played on a flying broomstick. It's one of the most amazing things I think Rowling has invented - it's so complicated, ... ...get Cedric Diggory, Cho Chang, Harry and Malfoy as Seekers, and all the other correct characters as the other players. Madam Hooch also appears to give you a practice game, Ludo Bagman appears commentating, Victor Krum is even in the Bulgaria team.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK AND SOUND LIKE?
Quidditch World Cup is one of those games which looks great when it's loading up; you know the sort, you watch the opening credits and think, 'Wow, this looks like it ...

Advantages: Great gameplay, good for kids and big kids too Disadvantages: A little repetitive... ok, a lot repetitive...
...simple. Quidditch is the Harry Potter version of football. There are 3 hoops at either end of an oval field. Your aim is to get the ball (Quaffle) through your opponents hoops while stopping them getting it through yours.
To do this, you have several players on each team who fly around and pass the ball before shooting. After a certain time, something called a 'snitch' will appear, with a long yellow line behind it. You then have to chase and catch ... ...this game the whole of Harry Potters story is ignored with the focus solely on the Quidditch world cup, and getting there.
But to get there you must first start off back at school and train to be a player. Initial training includes learning to tackle, pass and shoot. Simple tasks allow you to achieve this. To add a little spice, they are all timed and if you break the school record you get a gold medal, the house medal you get silver, and pass it ...

Harry Potter - Quidditch World Cup
Where to start . . . . . . . . well I've been quite an intense Harry Potter fan since the very day of the release of JK's first book I find her stories so interesting I think I've read the books at least 5 times. I find I don't really have much time for reading anymore so I purchased the audio books, quite sad I know but I really like them. So when this game got released I couldn't help myself but to go and get ... ...looks so cool. It shows Harry and Malfoy playing Quidditch. Looking at the back of the cover shows the game in more detail and it really does look truly amazing full of colour and action. After you have purchased the game and took it home you will notice that inside you get a nice little booklet with all of the instructions in and the CD which has the game on it. As usual you put it in the PS2 and wait for it to load up. It has all of the usual garbage ...

...recently purchased a copy of Harry Potter Quidditch world cup and this is what i have to say.
But before i say anything about the game lets go back to basics.

Quidditch is the most popular sport that is played by the wizarding world, so how do you play it? And what do you use to play it.

Advantages: You get to pay Quidditch Disadvantages: Your thumb falls off
...of you who don't know Harry Potter (Where have you been for the last 5 years? Mars?) these are the positions:
Chaser: These players handle the Quaffle, a sort of weirdly shaped ball which must be thrown through one of three hoops at the end of the pitch, earning 10 points. The other team will be trying to stop you.
Beater: These players have to look out for the Bludgers - another ball, this one with a mind of its own. It flies round the playing ... ...to bat it away using a stick. The beater can also direct the bludger to hit members of the opposite team - if you hit a chaser on the other team who has possession of the Quaffle, they drop it straight into the arms of your own chasers.
Seeker: Harry's position, has to catch the Golden Snitch (or Snidget, as this game seems to call it!). The Snitch is a small golden ball with wings, which, unlike the bludgers, is doing it's best to keep away from ...
