Right that’s it then – when is the fifth Harry Potter book coming out? I shall be queuing outside the bookshop when it does! Well maybe not, but I shall certainly be buying it as soon as possible.
As you must have guessed by now I have just finished reading the fourth book in the series, which is entitled Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It is by far the thickest of all the volumes so far being about twice the size of any one of the other three.
This book is about Harry’s fourth year at Hogwarts School of Wizardry and is much darker than the previous three, in fact someone actually gets killed, but I shan’t be telling you who it is of course so you’re safe to read on…..
As with my opinions on the previous three books I do not intend to divulge very much of the plot at all, as that would be totally unfair to those of you who have yet to read this book.
So, without giving too much away, I shall say that the basic storyline of this book revolves around the Triwizard Tournament held between Hogwarts, Beauxbaton and Durmstrang Schools. Harry gets involved and is subject to some horrifying situations as he battles with the other contestants for the Triwizard Cup. I won’t say any more than that as there is so much going on in this book that I would not be able to do it justice unless I gave away too much of the plot.
His old friends Hermionie and Ron are both there to help him as is Professor Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts and Hagrid, the Gamekeeper.
If you want to know more than that you’ll have to read it yourself!
I found this book a lot more complicated to read than the first three as the plot has many strings to it. I found myself having to flick back a couple of chapters to remind myself what was going on. Mind you this may have been due to the fact that I did not have time to read it all in one go, I tended to catch a chapter here and there, so that wouldn’t have helped my grasp of the continuity of the plot.
I also found this book darker than the previous three as I have already mentioned, not least because someone on the side of good rather than evil actually dies in it.
The story was interesting and I enjoyed the book immensely, but I did not find it difficult to put down, as I had done with the others, particularly with number three in the series.
I would say, in my opinion, that the best one so far was number three, followed by number one, then number four and finally number two. I did enjoy them all and there isn’t too much to choose between them so I would heartily recommend that you read them all, but do read them in order so that they make the most sense!
I have heard that they are going to make films of all the Harry Potter books – I do hope so.

I thought that this one was the best, but I agree that the second one wasn't as good as the rest. Great op, you managed to write a fair amount without giving too much away. *Simmer*

Superb op. I have to say I'm looking forward to the 5th book, and more films too! AL

Just finished The Goblet of Fire yesterday and am going through HP-withdrawal. Where's book 5? What's going to happen next?! I'm afraid I may very well be queuing up for its release! -- Nicole

Advantages: Gripping read where the whole Harry Potter world really starts to gel together. Disadvantages: Possibly a little too complex and long for little ones.
