Harry Potter, the phenomenon begins...

Advantages: Great book that gets children reading, fires the imagination

...Wild about Harry... ============== Harry Potter is an unlikely hero. Believing both his parents died in a car crash giving him a lightning scar to prove it, Harry is left with his only remaining relatives who despise him. His Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon and cousin Dudley (the Dursleys), finds himself average at school, with no friends, and no idea that he is soon to become an eleven year old wizard. Harry isn't a boy genius like Artemis Fowl. He ...
...================ And that's why the Harry Potter series has become so popular since it's publication in 1997. Harry is just like us, over-coming the problems of growing-up, going to a new school (even though it's a school for witches and wizards) and dealing with the demons of doubt and fear that plague everybody. JK Rowling must also be praised for her creativity. She draws from all sorts of mythology, from Ancient Greece to Folk lore, giving ...

...as myself - self proclaimed Harry Potter nut - has yet to review anything Potter related. This is because I love this series so much, I'm not sure my reviews could do the books justice. However, with less than a month to go before Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I think the time is right to try and persuade those who have not read any Harry Potter, that this is something they need to read! **Blurb** "Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary ...
...deadly duel. The Reason : HARRY POTTER IS A WIZARD!" **Plot** (minor spoilers) If you don't know the story of Harry Potter, then you have perhaps been living on the moon for the past ten years. Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary boy, until one day mysterious letters start to arrive. His overbearing Aunt and Uncle don't want him to read the letters, and so do all that is in their power to stop him from reading them. The opening of the book pulls ...

...the boxed set of the Harry Potter books from my friend, and although this review is technically about the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone, I have to recommend that you read them all! The Philosopher's Stone starts off in a normal house on a normal street. In that house live a family called the Dursley's. Mr. and Mrs. Dursley live there with their beloved son Dudley and an impostor called Harry who lives under the stairs amongst the spiders. ...

The first time Harry realises something strange is going on is when he reaches the age of 11 and a letter arrives addressed to him. He has never had a letter before and is really excited, but in an extreme act of cruelty, Mr. Dursley confiscates the letter. Harry thinks nothing of ...

...published up to now from Harry Potter in their English original version. Only to your better understanding, I'm from Germany and might improve here my English a little. Now, however, to the first volume!!! Indeed many of you will already know the story, because you have read the books and with it also the first volume which appeared in 1997 either already or have seen at least the matching movie. Indeed, I must emphasize here once again that movies ...
...We make a big jump. Harry is 10 years old meanwhile. He still lives with his uncle and his aunt. Indeed, these are not the loving relatives, no. Harry must sleep under the stair in a broom chamber and is tyrannized by his cousin Dudley and his friends where it only goes. The Dursleys give only old and outworn clothes of Dudley to Harry, because Harry is, however, the whole opposite of his big and very much thick cousin, looks whole in it rather than ...

Advantages: An absolutely fantastic read for young and old alike!
Disadvantages: The first few chapters may put some people off reading on.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is the first book in the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling and is the subject of the soon to be released and much hyped film, with an all-star cast, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”. This was also the title of the American release of the book. I have no idea why the title was changed; it rather insults the intelligence of our American counterparts to suggest that they would not understand the word ...
...ol’ US of A! Harry Potter is a fairly ordinary boy, who was orphaned as a baby (he has always been told his parents died in a car accident) and has been brought up by his Aunt and Uncle, Vernon and Petunia Dursley. Unbeknown to Harry, the Dursleys know a little more about Harry’s history, and what REALLY happened to his parents, than they are letting on. If Harry had known this, he would have had an explanation for his appalling treatment throughout ...

Audio Book of Harry Potter

Advantages: Great tone created
Disadvantages: Childish tale

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (the first in the series of best selling Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling) is read by Stephen Fry. Stephen Fry expertly captures the voice and tone of the book. An absolute brilliant narrated performance by Stephen Fry. Stephen Fry has become the voice of Harry Potter. The story is a simple tale of a child who goes to a boarding school and encounters details. But this is no ordinary boarding school, this is a school for magic. We find out as Harry does that he is a wizard. We hear about his terrible past, were his parents were murdered by a dark wizard (Lord Voldermort) We hear the story of Harry's first year at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry and his first steps into the magical world. ...

Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Audio Book) - J.K. Rowling, Stephen Fry (Narrator)

I finally take the Plunge and read Potter!

Advantages: Excellent story, great characters
Disadvantages: Made me want to start the next book straight away!

. The story was good and despite being about wizards I thought it was made as realistic as possibly. The way J K Rowling has written this book she has made it appeal to people of all ages which did surprise me. I was falling in love with some of the characters and then 5 minutes later I was hating other characters. The whole book did make me feel so many different emotions and I was totally into all of the characters and what was happening to them. I thought that all of the places, like the school and the train station were very well described and I found them easy to imagine in my head, not having seen the films I had no idea what these places looked like. There are some points in the book where we learn that Harry is in danger but I don?t think children will get upset by this as Harry always does manage to escape with the help of his ...
