Advantages: Easy to use, no chip shop smell afterwards Disadvantages: Take a while to cook
...many varieties I came accross Harry Ramsdens Oven Chips in the freezer isles. Hopefully by now the great reputation of fresh Harry Ramsdens chips has spread throughout the country, but for me they were very very well known. To find a frozen product - well I was sceptical at first to say the least, would they be any good?
My scepticism was totally unfounded. They may be a little more expensive than Mcain et al, around £1.59 for a 1kg ... ...interesting.
Harry Ramsdens Oven Chips are nice and chunky without being too big, no little bits left in the bottom of the bag either. They have a nice brown colour and don't look anaemic and sad. They taste, well, like chips! Also, they are not too salty - some I have tried have far too much salt included. They take around 30 mins to cook from a cold oven but come out nice and hot with a crunchy outside and a soft fluffy inside. ... more
I was getting extremely fed up a few years ago about having the house smell of chips for days after I had cooked them - even from a deep fat frier. That smell just lingers no matter how long you have the extractor fan on and the back door open. You come down in the morning and yuk - guess what you had for tea!
So I thought I would investigate the oven chip revolution. It does seem that the more money you pay the better the product and after many trying many varieties I came accross Harry Ramsdens Oven Chips in the freezer isles. Hopefully by now the great reputation of fresh Harry Ramsdens chips has spread throughout the country, but for me they were very very well known. My scepticism was totally unfounded. They may be a little more expensive than Mcain et al, around £1.59 for a 1kg bag, but what great flavour. No more bland tasting, thin and pale chips, now meals can be accompanied by something a lot more interesting.

They taste, well, like chips! Also, they are not too salty - some I have tried have far too much salt included. Whilst the kitchen no longer smells like a chip shop the cooked product has a nice chippy smell which is not overpowering.
I get two meals for four from a 1kg bag so I think that the price of £1.59 is pretty good. They may be that little bit more than their competitors but the quality speaks for itself. The only down side is that the bag is difficult to re-seal, but I have found that with other brands too.
I think that Harry Ramsden have a great product here, well suited to carrying their name which has always stood for quality and value for money.

Quick review of Harry Ramsdens Oven Chips
I had the misfortune of buying a packet of Harry Ramsen "chunky" chips at Morrisons yesterday. I tried some today (with a sausage, baked beans and fried egg). CHUNKY THEY AIN'T! I looked through the thesaurus in case I had misundersood the word "chunky". An antonym was more appropriate viz "svelte". If I wanted to eat "svelte" chips then I would go and eat at MacDonalds!
I cannot believe how anyone can approve of this product. The manufacturers should be sued under the Trades Descrption Act. ...
