***Background*** Harry is a little boy who has a bucketful of toy dinosaurs. They come to life with the help of his imagination and they have wonderful adventures together. His humour makes these books a joy to read but there are also important social lessons in most of these books too. Harry Without His Bucketful Of Dinosaurs

Advantages: Introduction to the character that has become a household name
Disadvantages: Not as good as the later books.

***Background*** Ian Whybrow is well known for his popular series of Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs, both in books and on the television but he has written a lot of other books too including some Little Wolf ones that are a personal favourite of my son. ***The Story*** The story begins with a small boy called Harry looking out of this window. "When the snow came, you had to look for it. But Harry had waited long enough. He went out with his spoon and plate. He put out his tongue and caught a flake. It was just right." There isn't much snow lying around but Harry finds little piles of it on the woodpile and on the leaves. It takes him a long time but finally he has enough snow to make a snow king who is only about 8 inches high. He decorates it with holly berries and makes a crown for it before taking it in ...

Seek and You Shall Find!

Advantages: Teaches colour recognition.
Disadvantages: None in my humble opinion.

This is one of many books in the popular series of books by Ian Whybrow. - Content, Style and Format - Harry and his dinosaurs are playing hide-and-seek in this book and the reader is asked to help Harry find his dinosaurs. The book's main focus is on colours and vocabulary relating to position: 'Who's that hiding under the blue cushion?' 'Who's that hiding behind the red towel?' 'Who's that hiding inside Nan's purple knitting basket?' The questions are mainly on the left hand page, the right hand page showing a picture of Harry and the object. This page then opens out to the right and underneath this large flip page is the object and the dinosaur that is hiding.
