Well it’s summer time everybody, and, as any doggy owner knows, this means it’s the time when those little buggers trying to infest your pet’s fur…not good! It sounds disgusting, just the thought of fleas or ticks crawling around on your pet doesn’t it? But, if truth be told, no matter how clean you think they are, you can’t stop fleas thinking that there’s a ‘house to rent’ sign on your pooch!
The combination of heat, humidity and those extra long walks in long grass and woodland areas is practically an invitation for infestation. Plus, it’s the same debate every year, “Which shampoo do we buy for the dog?”… “I dunno, the same one as last time, but it didn’t really work did it?” Well, argue no more, I think I’ve finally found respite from those pesky little critters! And it’s in the form of ‘Hartz rid flea tea tree shampoo’!
For fear of plagiarising that infamous saying- it does exactly what it says on the tin! (Well bottle!) It actually rids fleas… yes I know it’s unbelievable, and I was sceptical at first but now I’m a firm believer. The instructions are clear and concise:
1.You wet the dog’s fur all over with luke warm water.
2.You apply 60 mls of the shampoo for small dogs (I’ve got a Jack Russell and a Yorkie so I get 2 washes each outta one bottle – fab value for money!) or 90-100mls for larger dogs.
3.Lather the shampoo all over the dogs body, paying particular attention to the nape of the neck and the base of the back.(Apparently these are fleas fave places – god knows why!)
4. Leave for 5 mins. The active ingredients in the shampoo, including the tea tree oil which has natural healing powers, begin to work through the upper layers of the dog’s coat leaving a protective layer. This is dual purpose, as it not only gives a cure for fleas – poisoning them, but it gives preventative protection too – again good value for money and efficient!
5.Rinse with luke warm water and towel dry.
6.Comb through the fur to prevent tangles. (Not that there are any with this shampoo as it really moisturises at the same time as killing fleas, de-greasing fur and detangling knots…what more could you want for £1.99?!
Plus, even though it’s called ‘rid flea’ shampoo, it’s formula is gentle enough to wash you doggy all year round, giving that extra preventative layer at the same time. That’s what we do and it works a treat! Usually, Scamp’s (the Jack Russell) fur is constantly getting greasy due to its thickness and texture, but, I’m pleased to say that this is the ONLY shampoo that has actually managed to keep him grease free for over a fortnight now, all I can say is well done Hartz, and I hope they can do the same for many more doggy owners out there!!
