Im ususaly very picky with books, if it doesnt grab me by the end of the first chapter it gets put on the bookshelf never to be seen again.
Harvest was one of those books that I read in 2 sittings and i've read it again and again. I found it in a local bookshop for £5.99 (bargain).
The story is based on the idea of human organ harvesting.
Abby Di Matteo is a doctor in a Boston hospital who is given the oppertunity to become part of the cardiac transplant team by her boyfriend Dr Mark Hodell. All was going well until she discovered that a heart was to be given to a rich man's wife instead of a 17 year old who was next on the list for the lifesaving operation. She began to get suspicious and when she investigates further, she finds that transplant records have been falsified and even more worryingly that human hearts are not coming in through the proper channels.
I won't ruin the rest of the plot for you but it is very exciting.
Four suicides later,she meets a police detective who shares her concerns about the transplant team.
When Abby finds a receipt for a 1 million dollar yacht in Dr hodell's desk she runs for safety but ends up trapped in a secluded operating theatre about to become a "doner" herself.
Tess geritseen left her post as a successfull doctor to raise her children and began writing medical thrillers. She uses a lot of medical terminology and is very discriptive when she describes the operations taking place in the story.
Harvest is one of the best thrillers i have ever read and I would urge everyone to check out harvest along with her other great books, my favourite being "the surgeon"
