Advantages: Always one close by, quick turn out, children are welcome and catered for.
Disadvantages: Toilets can be quite disturbing, not all dishes taste as good they are described.

The Harvester chain of Restaurants have over 2000 outlets across the United Kingdom and owned and operated by Mitchells and Butlers, who claim to be the UK's leading operator of managed pubs, bars and restaurants. Harvester claim to offer healthy eating, ...
..."have you been to a harvester before" question as you walk to your seats and the "help yourself to salad".

The waitress will hand you over a large menu (these things are over 40 cms in length) and as you try to juggle it open without knocking over a strategically placed wine glass, she or he will take your drinks order before returning to take your food order. Depending on how busy the place is, you will be given ... more

Forget your Ask's of today . . . .

Advantages: Great Value, Great Food, "Salad Cart Experience"
Disadvantages: Sometimes Fully Booked

...on one street and a Harvester on the other, the restaurants of our time have been wiped out and today taken over by funky bars and lounges offering overpriced food in stuffy atmospheres where you feel bad breathing out, let enough eating. What has replaced them is your Ask's and Pizza Expresses of this world, and yes they may look a bit cooler and yes the staff are certainly a bit dishier, but when you've looking for good food that comes with a good ...
...while you eat, then the Harvester is the place to go, providing you can still find one these days. I now live in Cornwall where Harvesters don't even feature, the nearest one being some 45 miles away but the further you go up the country expect to pass around 125 of the friendly restaurants. I went only a few weeks ago to the Harvester situated along Watford Rd, Croxley green, Hertfordshire and there are another 3 in the 5mile radar. It was around ...

Eat out at the Harvester

Advantages: Salad bar, good portion sizes, good service
Disadvantages: Price of drinks

...strange really, I have a harvester a mile away from where I live in Nuneaton and I havent been there for a good 5 years. In the past week however I've been there twice and I'm left wondering why I left it so long in between my previous visits. -- Location and Surroundings -- The restaurant is situated on the corner of St Nicolas Park Drive and Hinckley road in a very affluent part of the town. The restaurant itself is quite well hidden from the ...
...-- The menu -- Harvester operates what it calls an early bird menu. This means that if you eat before 6.30pm on Monday to Friday and before 5pm on a Saturday, they will knock a third off their advertised prices. This suddenly makes eating out in numbers a lot more affordable. There is also a childrens style menu called the Young Guests Menu. This is however different from the standard childrens menu where you normally get a poor version of a sausage, ...

Having a harvestering time

Advantages: Waiter service, unique selling points & convenient location
Disadvantages: No sunday lunch option

...really tended to visit the Harvester in Loughborough until I got invited to two celebrations there in one week! Ever since then I have been back a few times. There are around 150 Harvester restaurants around I have visited only the one in Loughborough but would gladly use a Harvester elsewhere. They are normally situated near holiday inns or quality inns for some reason. Harvester is a subsidiary and brand name of Mitchell's and Butler's plc. Harvester ...
...like to see the full Harvester menu they also operate a website with everything you need to know about every meal and price. THEME The restaurant is very much a BBQ American type ranch theme. All the waiters and waitresses wear black trousers and pink and blue check shirts, which look nice because they are different and colourful unlike other places. The tables are set out in table and chair style in some areas and booths in others The main types ...

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PLACES TO EAT

Advantages: Warm and welcoming, lovely food, free salad
Disadvantages: You can not book a table

When you first enter a Harvester You will notice that there are two separate areas, one is the bar and one is the restaurant, you can eat in both of these places but can only smoke in the bar, however if you eat in the restaurant they are happy to let you go to the bar for a cigarette then return to your table. THE SETTING Harvesters restaurants have a country feel to them they have wooden beams and farm like fixtures, for example if you look up ...
...and wooden boxes made to look like chicken houses. At the tables they have both seats and sofa depending on the size of the table, which are both comfortable, whoever they do try to fit a lot of tables into the area that they have so sometimes it can be a bit of a squeeze getting in and out of your seat if it is busy. The bar has the same theme, there are also tables outside so if it is a nice day you can enjoy a cold drink in the sunshine. There ...

HARVESTER IN EASTLEIGH, HAMPSHIRE

Advantages: Great food, great service, great for families
Disadvantages: none

I love the Harvester restaurants so I do tend to go on a regular basis! Here is my review on the Harvester restaurant in Eastleigh, Hampshire. THE CAR PARK I have to admit that this car park isn't huge and it's on a really weird slope, although there are some more parking spaces in the Travelodge car park which is right next to the restaurant. We have never actually had a problem with finding a space but then we do tend to go early as we have ...
...Another great thing the harvester do is if you are seated before 6.30pm (5pm on Saturday) then they give you the earlybird menu which is 1/3 cheaper than the later menu! THE MENU AND SALAD CART I always find that they give you long enough to browse the menu and decide what you all want (some restaurants i've been to simply do not give you enough time, then when you haven't quite decided what you want they stand at the table huffing and puffing ...

Good old Toby!

Advantages: lovely if you like a roast dinner
Disadvantages: no choice for vegetarians

It's very rare that I get a Sunday off from work, so when I do, we like to either go out for Sunday lunch or cook a roast at home. Recently we took a trip to the Toby Carvery down the road from us. As you can imagine, being a Sunday, and serving roast dinners, the place can get very busy. We noticed it was easier to get a table for two rather than a larger table very quickly. There isn't the option to be able to book in advance, however if you should need to wait for a table, you have the option of sitting in the bar while one becomes available. *The pub* Being owned by Mitchells and Butlers (the same company who own the Harvester restaurants), the two Carvery pubs I have eaten in in the past, have the same kind of layout and style as the Harvester restaurants. Laid out to be half pub, half restaurant, you have the choice ...

A Giant Leap Up From Harvester

Advantages: Friendly staff, has my favourite wine, delicious food
Disadvantages: A little expensive

The first time I entered a Blubeckers restaurant I thought it would be very like the Harvester or Beefeater restaurants, with the cheap and cheerful food. While the surroundings where similar, although slightly more upmarket, the food was ten times better. Now I've been quite a few times with my partner, friends and family on various occasions (in fact I'm going again tomorrow night for my brother's birthday) so I will describe a usual evening at this restaurant. The Blubeckers that I go to is the one at Twyford in Berkshire. There are many others in locations around the UK which I shall tell you about at the end of this review. After being seated (by the way you generally MUST book) the waiter/waitress comes to the table to take your drinks order. This is the moment when I order a bottle of the Piesporter Michelsberg (my ...

Review of Blubeckers Restaurant

Beefeater-21st Century style.

Advantages: Reasonable prices, extensive menu, good service.
Disadvantages: Not very 'special,'

About Beefeater: Beefeater is a chain of pub restaurants owned by the huge Whitbread Group plc. Their brands including Premier Inn, Brewer's Fayre and Costa Coffee. The Beefeater chain was founded in 1970 and has over 130 UK restaurants. The restaurants have recently undergone refurbishments to make them appear more modern and stylish and possibly to appear 'cool' to a younger generation. Beefeater and Me: As a child, I didn't have a Beefeater in my town. We did have a couple of Harvester's (a similar chain) and I also had a Sylvanian Families restaurant (but that's another story.) We probably occasionally stopped at one when driving Oop North to visit family. I also admit to being a bit of a food snob. Living in London with lots of fine cuisine and travelling as an international air hostess abroad and eating in wonderful ...
