When you first enter a Harvester You will notice that there are two separate areas, one is the bar and one is the restaurant, you can eat in both of these places but can only smoke in the bar, however if you eat in the restaurant they are happy to let you go to the bar for a cigarette then return to your table.
THE SETTING
Harvesters restaurants have a country feel to them they have wooden beams and farm like fixtures, for example if you look up in the beams there will often be boxes of hay and wooden boxes made to look like chicken houses. At the tables they have both seats and sofa depending on the size of the table, which are both comfortable, whoever they do try to fit a lot of tables into the area that they have so sometimes it can be a bit of a squeeze getting in and out of your seat if it is busy. The bar has the same theme, there are also tables outside
so if it is a nice day you can enjoy a cold drink in the sunshine. There are also fruit machines and other amusments such as a who wants to be a millionaire game.
BOOKING
Unfortunatly you are not able to book a table at the Harvester, this is because it is a walk in restaurant so you have to just wait for a table even if you are a big party, i go on a regular basis and the longest i have ever had to wait is an hour, and if you sit in the bar and wait the time goes quickly.
THE MENU
The menu is great, there is something for everyone! They have a range of chicken and stake, salads, a few burgers, meals such as tuna stake, scampi and chips, salmon, and some platters for one person or to share and much more. Also if your meal comes with soming you do not like they are more than happy to swap it for something else, for example if it states that your meal comes with corn you can ask them for peas instead, they also give you a choice of chips or jacket potato. They also do starters which are things like nachos, prawn cocktails, potato skins and so on.
The food is of a very high standard, for all the times that i have been i have only had one bad experience where my chicken was a little bit burnt, when i told the waitress she look my meal replaced it quickly and did not charge us for it, them she also gave us free desserts! So they more than made up for the error. aevery other time that i have been the food has been well prepared and you get big portions as well so you never go away hungry.
There is also a salad cart, which is free, you get a bowl and can fill it as many times as you like for no charge, there is a lot of things to choose from, theres potato salad, swwet corn, pasta, tomatos, cuecumber, and even bead rolls to mention a few!
There is also a kids menu, which i do not know too much about as i do not have kids, but i think it is kind of a happy meal set up where they can choose burger, chicken nuggets or fish, then chips or potato, then choose a drink.
THE DESSERTS
The desserts are great, again a wide choice, theres lots of icecream, cheese cake, chocolate cake, toffee pie and more, they also range in size so you can have a small sunday or a huge mountain of icecream. Again these are of high quality.
THE SERVICE
The service is good to, the waitresses are friendly and always want to help if there is a problem, you are asked if you want drinks as soon as you are seated and left to look at the menu, about 5 minutes later the waitress comes back for your food order, if you are not ready they will leave and return when you are. Your food is served quickly, it can take a bit longer when they are busy but that is true of anywhere and service is always with a smile. They provide highchairs for small children.
THE PRICE
This is the best bit! If you go before 6 any day apart from sundays or bank holidays you get 1/3 off your main meal and starters!
But the prices are great anyway, the normal prices are between £5 and £10 for a main meal, when we go we never have starter because you get free salad, so with drinks (which are about average price) and desserts (£2 - £4) we normally end up paying £12 a head!! How cheap is that!
SUMMARY
To summerise, this is a great place to eat for everyone, particularly familys with the non smoking policies it is good for children. The service is good the food is good and the price is good, what more could you ask for?

Advantages: Honest, wholesome, value-for-money food. Child friendly. Disadvantages: Some restaurants have very low standards. Not especially couple-friendly.
