Edinburgh Harvey Nics

Advantages: great clothes, brilliant selection of clothes, great atmosphere no pressure
Disadvantages: I need some money

...down for ages to see Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh open was finally coming to an end. After weeks of hearing about it finally the day had come for the open day. I didn't go the first day though because it would be too busy and I hate going on the first day. I went about a week and a half later thinking it would calm down but no, still mile long queues which could take up to 20 minutes to get in. I was in a rush and couldn't wait in the heat to get ...
...heat but Scotland can have it's Autumn summer days.

After about a month of being open I went back again but then I remembered all of the celebrities would be there because it was the official open day, no luck for me. I was going to stay to see Ewan McGregor and I could have been second in the queue behind a girl who looked as if she had been sitting there all day but I went away because I wouldn't really see anyone.

Harvey Nicholls Leeds

Advantages: Great free night out
Disadvantages: Pricey!

...is now several years since Harvey Nichols opened its Leeds store, there was a great deal of excitement and people rushed to see what the fuss was all about. This is a high class store which is situated in the heart of Leeds City Centre's main shopping street, Briggate. From the outside it looks very plush, with uniformed doormen opening the doors as you enter. Once inside the quality of the goods on display is reflected in their prices, not somewhere ...
...plus you get a posh Harvey Nicks carrier bag to take your purchase home in. They have a good selection of teas and at Christmas they have some very good gift ideas. Last Christmas I bought a tin of biscuits for a relative and she was delighted to have something bought from this posh shop!!! I began to think she would have been pleased with only the tin, the biscuits being incidental!!! I have never been in the other Harvey Nichols stores so don't ...

For the Trust Fund babies

Advantages: Feel glamourous just stepping inside
Disadvantages: Over priced, Under stocked

...the main character going to Harvey Nicks for some good old retail therapy. I've also heard many references to it in the same breath as Harrod's but never the inkling about what it might be like to experience in person. So I went to check it out. It is a shoppers paradise, but it is also a strictly a 'person with money's paradise! It is five floors of boutique style displays holding three dresses each, none over size eight. It is brightly lit, brilliantly ...
...the highest of trendy labels, Harvey Nichols goes one step further and doesn't sell anything worth less than £150. That is an exaggeration, but I understand that unless I can ever afford to live in Knightsbridge, I will not be able to afford Harvey Nichols. It is all relative of course regarding how much money one likes to spend in any one place on any particular item, and although I make a nice enough salary, I would rather afford rent each month ...

Absolutely Fabulous darling

Advantages: Five floors of shopping paradise
Disadvantages: Only available in London or Leeds

Harvey Nichols (or Harvey Nicks to the cool and trendy) is five floors of a shopaholic's paradise. On the ground floor, you have make-up consessions, jewellery, and accessories department which has handbags, sunglasses, purses, etc. Going up you have all your usual departments that you find in department stores, but with classy items to die for. On the fifth floor you will find the ladies powder room, complete with selection of toiletries and ...
...coffee, chocolates, etc. The Harvey Nicks restaurant can also be found on the fifth floor - but to be honest I found it a bit of a disappointment. The place was like a cattle-market, noisy and over-crowded; the service wasn't too good; and the menu totally over-priced. The building itself is lovely - it looks very small from the outside but has a tardis effect - there is plenty of room to shop till you drop. ...

Time to cancel my account

Advantages: classic shopping
Disadvantages: too crowded

Retail therapy at Harvey Nichols used to be an exclusive shopping experience. It is no longer. Yes, it is a classic building in fashionable knightsbridge, but as a serious shopaholic with a budget to match, I no longer feel at home. The place is now teeming with tourists, who crowd out the once elegant departments. I blame the TV show "Absolutely Fabulous" which has popularised the name of "Harvey Nicks". I do actually enjoy the programme, so this ...
...the cashiers, and no longer able to enjoy a peaceful coffee in the restaurants. I'm sure Harvey Nichols are delighted with the free publicity and extra custom. But I long for the more dignified, crowd free atmosphere pre-Patsy! Perhaps it is time to cancel my charge card? ...
