In April this year me and my fiance got the keys to our new house. We were well organised as we bought the house in February so had plenty of time to order all furniture that we would need before we even got the keys, or so we thought.


Style
I looked at the large collection of Harveys sofas online and instantly fell in love with the gorgeous looking cleo corner units. They have a chunky modern look to them and can be upholstered in leather, a large range of different colours is available. On February the 16th we went to Harveys and ordered a right hand facing chaise cleo corner unit upholstered in what was apparetly high quality black leather, it was gorgeous.
We thought it would be perfect for our new home.
Our living room isnt really very big so we thought a corner unit would make great use of space we had available and be easy to get in and out of the house as it comes in two pieces, we thought this would be particularly handy because our lounge is on the second floor of our house so the sofa would have to fit up quite a narrow set of stairs.


Delivery
We were told when we bought the sofa that it may take up to 8 weeks for delivery which we thought would be perfect for us. It meant that hopefully we would be able to avoid having to sit on the floor of our new house for to long.
After 9 weeks there was still no sign of the sofa or word from Harveys to let us know when it was due into their warehouse so i phoned them and was told that i would be contacted as soon as my sofa arrived and that this should be no longer than 2 weeks.
12 weeks after buying my sofa i had still heard nothing from harveys so i again called them again only to be told the same old rubbish that there had been a manufacturing delay but i could expect delivery within one month.
At this point i was extremely annoyed after handing over a large amount of money upfront i had still recieved nothing.
My sofa eventually arrived on the 8th of June 16 weeks after i handed over my hard earned cash for it and 8 weeks past its estimated arrival time.
When the sofa did arrive the delivery men were an hour later than the delivery slot i was given, they managed to snap a shelf off the wall which wasnt even in their way and it was only after they had left we realised they had done this and they chipped the wood flooring that had just been laid in my living room through lack of care.


Quality of items delivered
When the sofa was unwrapped and the delivery men had left it was time to finally get a nice soft seat on the sofa we had been waiting so long for but to our disappointment our sofa felt nothing like the one we had tested out in the showroom. The foam filling was incredibly soft and took forever to rise back up and didnt regain its shape unless plumped up and the leather sagged as soon as it had been sat on.
Our sofa which is now one month old looks the best part of ten years old and due to how soft and saggy the filling is it offers absolutely no support, i am only 18 years young and even i get backache sitting on it.
I have requested a refund or replacement due to the poor quality but Harveys will not do either of these untill they have had an independant inspector look at it first to determine wether it could be repaired or not but in true harveys style the inspector has arranged to come out twice and has appeared zero times costing me two days wages!!!


Overall opinion
Awful value for money, no customer service skills and poor quality products. Please be warned if you want something which wont look awful as soon as the wrappers in the bin DONT SHOP AT HARVEYS!!!


Update
A man arrived from a company called homeserve to evalute the damage to my sofa. He took a couple of quick photos of the sofa and left quickly barely saying two words to me. Two weeks later i recieved a letter from homeserve telling me that the inspector had found no problem with the sofa and that the leather was simply ageing, i couldnt believe this statement as it is quite unbelievable that they could claim a sofa little more than one month old could have aged and sagged to this degree.
On receipt of this letter i called Harveys who said they would get homeserve to contact me again and have the sofa looked at again by a different person. I waited two weeks and heard nothing so i again phone Harveys only to be told that this was incorect and that i would have to contact homeserve, they would not be contacting me.
I am now extremely annoyed and i feel that dealing with either Harveys or Homeserve is getting me nowhere and is simply wasting my time. I have now contacted both Trading Standards and the judge and the Sunday mail who helps people in my position.

I hope this review is of use to fellow ciao members and that it can hopefully prevent others from purchasing low quality furniture from this nightmare of a company.

    A friend of mine had trouble several years ago, late delivery, when it it did arrive, the so called cream leather had a hint of pink to it, the sofa and chair didn't match, many calls later and lots of hassle they managed to get it sorted. i'm steering well clear. great review. good to warn others.
