"A Lovely Little Travel Game."

The Product

My nephew has got to go away for a few days on a school trip and to keep him entertained for the journey down there she decided to purchase him a couple of travel games and this was one of them. The travel game is compact version of the classic Connect 4 game which is made by Hasbro, whom make the majority of board games now. The all-in-one playing grid makes storing the game easy as the checker tray folds up on the playing grid once you have finished playing. The game comes in a small cardboard box and on the front it clearly shows a picture of the game. Inside the box should be the main tray which is a dark blue colour and there should be a total of 42 checkers (21 red and 21 yellow). There are instructions inside the box as well although I am sure the majority of you will know how to play this game. This game is suitable for 2 players only and is suitable for children aged 6 years and upwards. The aim of this game is to be the first person to get four of their coloured counters in a row. The rows can be diagonal, horizontal and vertical.

Playing the Game

This game is very easy to set up. All you need to do is unfold the checkers tray and the playing grid. Once you have done this you can start to play the game. This game works best if it’s put on a flat surface. One player is one colour and the other player is another colour. My nephew always likes to be red; how-ever quite often when playing the game we will take it in turns as to what colour we are. Although this was purchased for his school trip, he has played it a few times with me and his younger nephew and his mum too. The counters are quite small so it’s a good idea to keep these away from children to avoid them putting the counters into their mouths. The counters fit into the small counter trays either side of the grid perfectly so there is no need to hold them all the time; although when playing I normally keep a few in my hand. Although the counters are small they are easy to hold. The counters as well as the playing grid and checker tray are all made from plastic and seem well made. It’s easy to drop the counters into the desired place and they then fall to the bottom of the grid into that column. Each player takes their turn to drop a counter into the grid. You have to try and stop the other player from putting four of their counters in a row. Who-ever gets four of their coloured counters in a row first, they win that game. There is a small latch at the bottom of the grid and this can be moved so that when you have finished playing, all the counters can be released from the playing grid and you can play again. The counters can be left in the grid or in the counter trays and we then fold the game up and then put it back into its box for safe storage.

Overall Opinion

In terms of travel games, I think this is a good game as long as you have a flat surface in which you can put the game on to play it. The game is quick and easy to set up and it seems well made and isn’t flimsy like some other games that you get now. The counters to the game are very small so you do have to be careful that they don’t get lost and you have to ensure you keep them away from smaller children to avoid them putting the counters into their mouths. The game can be over quite quickly but it is a game that you can have a few games of before you get bored of it. In terms of value I think the game is very reasonable for the price and it’s a great game for taking away with you as its small and doesn’t take up much room in your suitcase or overnight bag.
