Anyone who was around in the 80's is likely to know of the popular toy range of the time My Little Pony, 90's children are less likely to know of the range despite it's re-launch with redesigned ponies (awful skinny things that looked nothing like the originals) anyway 2002 saw a further re-release of the range more reminiscent of the 80's toys that so captured my heart as a girl, having grown up and had a little girl of my own I was delighted that I would be able to introduce her to a toy that I so loved as a child, just in it's more modern form.
Lily Lightly- Lily Lightly is from a slightly more deluxe branch of the Hasbro toy line, the standard ponies come in small boxes with a hair brush and little else, some are scented, some set with jewels………..Lily is the cream of the crop, the Princess of the ponies. A unicorn pony, Lily has many special features and extras, she comes with a magic wand style hairbrush, a set of high heeled horseshoes and 2 star shaped hair clips, she is also dressed in a beautiful pink & white sparkly gown. Lily has a star shaped button on her chest which when pressed causes her eyelids to flutter, her horn lights up and her gown flashes in a pattern of red and blue lights.
Lily has a harder body then standard ponies, obviously to protect the wiring that causes all the lights to flash. She has small magnets in her feet making her compatible with the play sets in the range including Twinkle Twirls Dance Studio and she takes 3 cell shape batteries (included) She is from the "super long hair" series of the ponies which, as you may have guessed, comes with extra long hair with strands of tinsel running through it.
Lily is suitable for children 3 years and upwards.
Price & Availability- Lily is widely available from toy stores with a RRP of £12.99 putting her at the top price for a single pony, although I did pick ours up in the sale for half price. She is also available direct from Hasbro via their website www.hasbrotoyshop.com and with pony collecting being such big business she is also available regularly on Ebay.
Our experience- Elsa has a great many ponies and her collection is ever increasing with a combination of retro 80's ponies and the newer modern designs. Lily is designed with 3 year olds in mind and despite Elsa only being 20 months she manages to play with Lily really well, she loves animals anyway so has always had an idea of how to make them walk around their farmyards etc… but she makes the ponies talk to each other like she's seen on her DVD's which is really adorable, she also enjoys brushing Lilys long hair especially when I'm brushing her own hair, although I do monitor her closely with the hair clips and shoes just in case she's tempted to chew them. Naturally though the most appealing part, and what makes Lily Elsas favourite pony, is the flashing lights, she'll happily sit pressing the button and watching the dancing lights before laughing excitedly and chanting "again, again!"
Elsa isn't the most light handed or gentle of toddlers but Lily has stood up to the trauma of being played with well, she's in great condition with no missing or crinkled hair, no paint rubs to her eyes and no damage to the dress and lights. She's flashed at us regularly and daily since she was purchased yet her batteries are still going strong and the blinking eye mechanism still works smoothly.
Overall- £12.99 might seem a lot to pay for a toy like this but she's well loved and challenges Elsas imagination as she has to work out new and fun ways to play with her. She stands up to the rigours of daily play well and with a bit of care she'll be a collectible of the future, one that no doubt Elsa will be showing her own daughter just like I have done with mine.

...other Ponies. It makes her versatile and a firm favourite of my daughter's, with a place of honour in her collection.
Having been a limited edition, you may find her in shops with remaining stock, or on eBay, as well as possibly the Hasbro My Little Pony shop online. ...
