While preparing months and months in advance for my honeymoon for the Maldives, I came across this website - www.hotspot.co.uk. A very impressive site too, may I add. Also there is the hotspot shop! I found this excellent for buying my suncreams from. There was also a tempting 'on-going' offer. That if you buy 'blah blah' suncreams you get this other free and that one free, Oh and a free baseball cap free saying hotspot.co.uk. Well as always I am a gluten for these kinds of offers and it took quite a while choosing the different SPF for my hols but I got there in the end! One of the products I bought, and I have never seen them selling in such stores as Boots, Superdrug or anywhere else for that matter, was the 'Glitter Gel spf4'. I thought 'Yes' straight away being the girly type I am - my husband laughed when this product arrived. "Typical" he said! "Might have known you'd buy something like this" he also mentioned that buying a spf4 to use in the maldives was brainless - "do you want to be burned alived?" this was compared the the factor 30+ he'd been out and bought!
This product that I bought was intended to be used on the last few days of my 'tanning expedition' and with quite disastrous results...............
First of all here is a snippit from that website, advertising this product that I as a 'girly thing' buyer, as usual was taken by!
'Hawaiian Tropic Tanning Glitter Gel spf4 (200ml) is a unique product as it has the special addition of a sparkling glitter effect on the skin, whilst simultaneously protecting the skin keeping it deeply moisturised with the addition of Aloe Vera, Papaya and Mango.' It also reads...... UVA,UVB and IR protection Enriched with Aloe Vera and carrot extracts Emulsifier Free Non-Sticky - Which indeed it was! Oil free Hydro - complex This was priced at £8.59 for a 200ml bottle. I thought 'Ohhh, what a bargain!' Was I wrong!
The last 3 days of of honeymoon and I thought that because I had already accquired a dark tan, I would have these remaining days as what I call 'Frazzling days'. My husband goes up the wall when I talk like this - which I know the dangers of skin exposure and skin cancer but seeing as though I'd taken care all the holiday I decided that I would just top up a bit extra before going back home!
Anyway, I opened the bottle and started to apply the cream. A 'heavenly' aroma filled the air with the fruity fragrance of papaya and mango. It apllied lovely on the skin and talk about glistened, it sparkled amazingly on my skin. I was overwhelmed with this product - at first, anyway!
After a second application, while trying to rub this gel into my skin - arms, legs, chest, belly a nasty stickyness started occuring. It went kind of a 'bobbling' bitty texture on the skin which looked absolutely awful as if I'd got the lurge or something, so I tried removing with the wetwipes I'd taken on the beach with me - no luck. Thought I'd try having a dip in the sea, to try and rinse this from my skin - after really scrubbing myself - this eventually came off. 'Terrible Stuff' is all I can use to describe this product!
After returning home, I wrote to the editor on the hotspot.co.uk pages, describing my experience with this particular product, who put my letter of complaint to the 'propper place'. I had my reply back almost immediately, offering me their condolences on their behalf and asked me to send them the batch number on the back of the bottle so they could send a note to the labs asking for a investigation on the product. Sadly, I was unable to help, as I had left the product in the waste bin of our room in the Maldives. I told them this, and explained how disappointed I was with the product and that I deemed it a waste of space in our case allowence for our return journey!
I was also offered to choose 2 complimentary products as an apology on their behalf - which I greatly took advantage of, seeing as though our next holiday is coming up shortly! But this time, choose what my husband calls 'sensible products'. Received these with many thanks one week later.
I also bought the Glitter Gel aftersun to go with this product - this product, however, was pleasing!
