Advantages: Cheap, connects to routers of all types I have tried Disadvantages: Breaks easily, driver problems in Vista
I had used inbuilt wireless in my laptop (an HP Pavillion tx1000, that I have also reviewed) for two and a half years, until my internal wireless failed and couldn't be easily replaced. I decided to buy an external USBwirelessadapter to solve my internet problems, and chose the Belkin WirelessGUSBadapter, as other members of my family use them and they are not expensive.
Driver Download
In order to get your Belkin wirelessadapter to work, you must download the drviers from the internet. This is very annoying if you need to be wireless to connect easily. Other wireless internet USB (Vodaphone wireless broadband) I've used, have the driver software contained on the USB stick, which automatically loads and allows you to connect completely without a wire. The driver download website is easy, simple and quick. When you search ...
Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Not enough information on software or packaging.
I recently bought a Belkin wireless adaptor when I went into a house share and needed to have the internet. I use the internet but I know little about the technical side of things. I paid £19.99 for the adaptor in PC world who only had Belkin at the time which I thought was not expensive. However installing it was a nightmare.
The 3 easy steps on the box seemed so easy; Install the software, plug the adaptor into a USB PORT - start networking! If only it was that simple. Every time my computer searched for a network it crashed. I phoned the Belkin company who took me step by step through the technical part and still we could not get internet. Eventually the Belkin assistant told my for some reason my computer was not recognising the new network. Being increasingly frustrated I considered taking the adaptor back for a refund ...
Advantages: Simple to set up and use Disadvantages: Software is not the greatest
I bought this USB network adaptor for my son when he still had his Windows 98 machine as the PCI card that I reviewed previously was too advanced for his hardware. This USBadapter was bought to connect to my Belkin wireless router meaning that I now had a wireless network consisting only of Belkin hardware.
--Whats in the box--
On opening the box, there were no real surprises. There was the USBadapter, a stand which would allow you to place the adapter on your desk if you didnt want to have it plugged directly into the back of your PC, the antenna, a quick installation guide and a CD which contained the drivers and a full manual.
--Installation--
On reading the quick installation guide, it was apparent that the software had to be installed before the adapter was plugged in. The reason for this was because, when the hardware ...
