Hayes ACCURA V.92 PCI Model H08-15357

Advantages: Cheap, Performs well, Reliable, Noise Resistant, V92 Ready
Disadvantages: No visible lights or on-screen indication

...Whilst browsing the shelves of my local Dixon's store, I found a Modular Technology V92 Ready Internal PCI modem. The price was just £24.99 so I thought it worth a try. The modem fits in an empty pci slot and is based on the lucent chipset (www.lucent.com). The card went in easily and the software installed fine on my Windows ME machine. The manual gives detailed instructions on how to install and configure the software, and the box contains trial cd's for aol, compuserve, freeserve etc., fine if you don't have an ISP already. The lucent site has links to the very latest drivers, and the connection speed is as good as any external modem I've used from this location. The unit seems to be very resiliant to noise on the line as I have picked the telephone up downstairs and dialed a number before realising I was on the net... Read review

...I wanted to write a positive op for this product I truly did, and even though most of what follows talks about the good points of this modem and Creative. There was just a few too many niggles with this modem that has dented my appreciation of Creative. (Sorry Creative!) Onto the op! I picked up this modem from Dabs.com for slightly high price of £34 + VAT + P&P about a week ago and sadly enough I’m sending it back! I was in the middle of building 3 computers at once and needed an internal PCI modem so I ran to a well-known company and their modem! I picked this modem mainly on the merits of it being Creative and because its got the new V.92 standard! Advantages: Easy to fit, good software package included, good brand

...From the well known Creative (SoundBlaster) stables comes this internal V90 PCI 56K modem. Complete with cable, drivers and some usefull software - Mediaring talk, Quicklink Message Centre and Bitware fax/communications. It only has a line-in socket on the back so you cannot 'daisy-chain' your telephone from this modem. I found the card easy to fit and configure and was up and running in less than 10 minutes - just fit the moden into your case and boot-up, Windows discovered it had new hardware installed and then asked for the location of the drivers, I pointed it at the correct directory on the CD drive and that was it! It connected first and every consequent time at a minimum of 48K and once at 50.3K Good product well worth considering for home use.... Read review
