Hazer Baba Turkish Apple Tea

Turkish Apple Tea is an excellent alternative to black tea, or coffee, and it contains no caffeine. Although it is called tea, it does not contain any form of tea at all and is really a kind of fruit cordial made from granulated fruit and sugar.

Hazer Baba is well known for fruit teas and makes several others including black cherry, pomegranate, orange and lemon. This product comes in an attractive green and red box with apples on the front. It is tall but quite slim and the actual packaging material is strong which means that you can keep the tea in its box and you don't have to put it into a jar.

I paid £2.27 for a box containing 250g but I had to order over the internet because I was not able to buy this locally. I bought from worldwideshoppingmall.com which is in Humberside.

To make apple tea place two teaspoons of powder in a cup (I prefer it stronger and it depends on the size of the cup), pour on hot water and stir. The apple fragrance is lovely. I didn't find the need to add any more sugar. It can also be made with cold water if you fancy a cool refreshing drink.

It is not easy to work out the sugar content of this drink from the information on the packet. It says that 100g of the powder contains 376 calories. One serving, assuming that you use two rounded teaspoonfuls is 16g, so that works work out at just over 60 calories per cup (according to my maths) . That's not bad as long as you don't drink it all day.

I find this refreshing and very warming and it is great if you have a sore throat, or a cold. You can also add the powder to ordinary black tea if you wish.

I keep this in my cupboard and use quite a lot of it. It is very good and it's just a pity that I can't buy it locally.
