DANDRUFF
Dandruff is a condition affecting the scalp. The skin cells on the scalp are constantly renewing and the old cells get pushed to the surface by the new ones. What happens when you have dandruff is that the process I just explained speeds up to twice the normal rate so more dead cells are shed and pushed to the surface, there are so many cells that they go into clumps and this is what makes them visible. (If you have dandruff there are countless websites out there which can explain in greater detail such as www.netdoctor.co.uk or www.coolnurse.com)

INTRODUCTION
I am reviewing the 'Head & Shoulders' for normal hair or 'Classic Clean' as it is now known. I suffer with an itchy scalp and if I don't wash my hair everyday it gets extremely itchy and then starts to flake and I even get sores on my scalp. It's very uncomfortable and I don't really like the medicated shampoos such as T-gel, so I decided to give this a go!

PRICE, SIZE and OPTIONS
Usually this costs approximately £3.69 for 400ml. You usually find special offers on such as' buy one get one free' or '3 for 2'. I tend to stock up when these offers are on! There is an offer on in Boots at the moment 'buy one get 2nd one half price'. There is an offer on the 200ml bottles in Asda until April - 2 bottles for £3.50, or it is £3.38 for a 400ml bottle, which works out cheaper.

I usually buy the 400ml bottles as they last a lot longer and usually it works out better value for money. You can get this product in 200ml as well, I tend to go for this size if it's on offer.

Head and Shoulders doesn't just come in 'normal' or 'Classic Clean' as it is now called. There are many different options that you can choose from:

Classic Clean 2 in 1 - handy for the gym, swimming etc

Classic Clean for men - not sure what the difference is between this and the normal Classic Clean

Hydrating Smooth & Silky - this option is a rich indulgent shampoo which adds moisture while adding a silky-smooth shine to tired or frizzy hair

Volume Boost - this lightweight shampoo helps your hair get moisturised, full-bodied, dandruff-free.

Soothing Care - This option wraps your hair in tender-loving care, infusing it with moisture right down to the roots. Hair and scalp emerge clean, clear and comforted.

Sensitive - this shampoo is dermatalogically tested, colour-free and lightly scented, so it gently nurtures your scalp to leave your hair feeling soft, manageable and free from dandruff.

Citrus Fresh - this shampoo thoroughly cleanses the scalp and hair with a bright, breezy scent.

Cool Menthol - this shampoo has a shot of tingly natural menthol for a wide-awake shampooing experience. After just one use, your scalp and hair will feel clean and refreshed

Ocean Spa - perk up your hair with this invigorating shampoo. Its infused with essences of sea minerals, bringing tired hair back to life all while keeping flakes at bay.

I've tried a couple of these but my review today is on the Classic Clean.

THE PRODUCT AND WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO
It's an anti-dandruff shampoo which has something called HydraZinc in the formula! HydraZinc is a mineral that has been used for centuries to soothe the skin - apparently. It says that this formula works against flakes and a dry, itchy, irritated and tight scalp. It also says it starts working from first wash. And that it leaves your hair looking clean and feeling completely manageable.
The actual shampoo is light blue in colour and is of a thick consistency, there isn't a particularly strong smell to it but it is pleasant.

PACKAGING
The packaging is pretty average. It's not exactly 'trendy' so for the more fashionable of you out there, either hide it or transfer it into a more fashionable bottle! I know that the 'Charles Worthington' or the 'Tony & Guy' products to look better in the bathroom. But I don't really care about that, if it works and makes my hair look and feel good then that's what counts.

DIRECTIONS OF USE
It says to apply to the scalp and hair making sure you cover from root to tip. Massage it in. Rinse and repeat if needed. It states that for best results, use every time you shampoo. It also says that its pH-balanced formula is suitable for everyday use.

MY EXPERIENCE
I have long hair which is coloured and I regularly use straighteners.
I followed the instructions which were simple - exactly like other shampoos. I liked the consistency of the shampoo, it was thick and didn't run through my fingers. It also made a great lather. After the first wash I didn't feel like my hair needed another wash but I did it anyway just to get the full effect. It also smelt quite nice, a clean fresh smell. I also used the 'Head & Shoulders' conditioner but I'll keep that for a different review.
I then towelled my hair dry and continued to dry it with a hairdryer and straighten it - as I always do.

MY RESULTS
My hair felt gorgeous afterwards. It felt soft and silky, even after I straightened it! The whole experience was pretty average to be honest, there isn't much excitement in hair washing! But it was ok as far as it goes. I've tried a lot of these designer 'straightening' shampoos lately as I had a few of the sets from Boots for Christmas. I noticed that my hair feels a lot better after using the 'Head & Shoulders', I found the other shampoos left my hair feeling tacky and quite dry on the ends.

THE VERDICT
I haven't stopped using this shampoo and have also tried the smooth and silky version and the conditioner which I also like. My scalp still gets itchy when I don't wash it everyday but the itchiness doesn't seem to last as long once I use this shampoo. I'm not superficial and I don't care if people think it's uncool to use Head & Shoulders, I like it and it does exactly what it says on the label. My boyfriend also uses it (I suppose he'd use whatever is in the shower) but he also likes it.
I would highly recommend Head & Shoulders.

YOU DIDN'T KNOW I HAD DANDRUFF?............ I DON'T!!!
