Garmin Forerunner 205 - your virtual coach...
Advantages: Great for tracking your performance and working to improve it Disadvantages: Doesn't feel good losing a race with your virtual partner :-(
...faulty button (the guys at Garmin promptly replaced the unit under warranty) I've not had any problems with it.
+ The Product:
Essentially its a small wrist mounted GPS, at its very basic it will record information on your run (or walk or cycle ride). Information can be viewed on this history section of the GPS so you can see / compare things like distance run, average speed, fastest speed etc.. You can then download this information for a permanent ... ...with the GPS is the Garmin Training Centre, you don't need to use this and it is pretty basic. You simply connect via USB and upload your runs, you can then view information on the run including things like distance, speed (useful as you get a graph so you can see where in your run the speed alters), elevation etc..
The Training Centre software also has a (very very basic) map which also from my experience is inaccurate, it plots your route onto ...

the garmin forerunner 50 is a must have for runners!
Advantages: good info display, easy to read when running Disadvantages: watch is a little chunky, beware of dead battery on arrival!
i purchased the garmin forerunner 50 after a couple of weeks of pondering and reading reviews about it. the reviews were at times mixed but i guess you will get that with everything. anyway here are my thoughts on it:
i run on average 4 miles a trip 3 times a week. so i wanted something that would keep me up to date on how i was getting on- the garmin forerunner 50 does this brilliantly.
its a simple little set up- there is a usb pen, a footpod ... ...watch, in my opinion, is a little chunky to wear as an everyday watch but is fine for running.
i have had no problems, the info is always transferred from watch to pc without a hitch.
my only gripe was that garmin sent the footpod with a dead battery! ...

Doesn't Miss a Beat
Advantages: Stylish and functional Disadvantages: Let me get back to you on that one...
...one of the more expensive Polar watches, usually retailing for around £95, but if you look hard enough you can get a good deal. Included with the watch was a Polar WearLink coded transmitter, which is a more comfortable version than you get with other models (the F5 and F6), and the coding means that it doesn't cross-talk with other HRMs if you are doing a class, it will protect the information received from your heartrate without getting mixed up ... ...from there click 'create' - Polar will ask some questions based on your user info, and make recommendations as to how much exercise you should do and at what heart rate you should be working. You can choose how many sessions you want to do a week, and this is a great motivation for actually going - since I created my programme I have been going to the gym more often than my programme tells me, to make sure I reach all my goals for the week. If you ...

A personal trainer.
Advantages: Good price, lots of functions. Disadvantages: Chest strap can move around a little
...computer game. The polar F6 also features a very cool SONIC uplink tool, so you can send information to and from your watch. I upload my training records to their website and send logos, weight information and training zones back to my watch. To do this all you need is a microphone and speakers. If you want to push yourself harder at training, lose weight or have better cardiovascular limits then this will definatley get you on your way. The only ...
